Pay attention to climate change and paint a green future
2022-04-24
April 22, 2022 is the 53rd world earth day. It is a festival specially established for world environmental protection. It aims to raise people's awareness of existing environmental problems, mobilize more people to participate in environmental protection actions and improve the overall environment of the earth through green and low-carbon life. Today, the celebration of Earth Day has developed to 192 countries around the world, with more than 1 billion people participating every year, making it the largest folk environmental protection festival in the world. On April 23, the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou held a green environmental protection party with the theme of "painting a green future" in the Consulate General in Zhujiang New Town, with cold drinks and snacks, live performances by the band, themed photography exhibition, and the first phase of the huge wall painting project created by artists from the two countries, depicting a beautiful vision for the future climate. More than 100 people from all walks of life who pay attention to ecology and love art participated in the activity. Consul general Lisa Heller (Geng Xin) of the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou said at the party: "I hope to promote more climate improvement actions through the power of folk art exchanges, so that people can continue to pay attention to and strive to develop a safer, more stable and more sustainable world." Addressing climate issues requires international cooperation and solidarity. On November 26, 2020s, the two sides agreed to strengthen the multilateral action framework on climate change in the 21st century, such as the joint declaration of the two countries on climate change and strengthening multilateral cooperation on climate change in the 21st century. It is understood that the United States is determined to realize the transformation of a net zero emission economy by 2050 and transform the energy industry into a carbon free economy by 2035. The United States will also protect at least 30% of the water and soil natural environment by 2030 and help the world protect 30% of the marine environment by 2030. This is only a small part of the United States' efforts to address the climate crisis and protect ecological diversity. During the event, the green design concept of the US Consulate General in Guangzhou was also displayed simultaneously. It is understood that the architectural design of the museum area has obtained LEED energy conservation and environmental protection certification, and there are a number of green environmental protection designs, such as the nearest local materials for building materials, the most energy-efficient lighting and air conditioning system, and the biological depression that can purify the surplus rainwater on the ground. A group of beehives are also set up in the museum area to help the local community pollinate and biodiversity, as well as the staff plantation in the museum area, so that the staff in the consulate can pay attention to the earth and daily food. The US Consulate General in Guangzhou said that it would make long-term efforts to promote environmental protection and climate change. (Xinhua News Agency)
