On April 14, 2022, State Councilor and foreign minister Wang Yi had a telephone conversation with Vietnamese foreign minister Pei Qingshan. Wang Yi said that in the face of the intertwined superposition of century changes, century epidemic and Ukrainian crisis, as close neighbors following the socialist road, China and Vietnam should give full play to the political advantages of the two parties and two countries and carry forward the friendly tradition of "comrades and brothers". We should not only do our own affairs well and maintain the momentum of development and revitalization, but also strengthen strategic communication and make new contributions to maintaining regional peace and stability. China is willing to continue to provide Vietnam with anti epidemic support such as new coronavirus vaccine, anti epidemic materials and special drugs, and promote the implementation of people's livelihood assistance to Vietnam as soon as possible. We should strengthen joint prevention and control at the border and jointly ensure the epidemic prevention safety of personnel at border ports and goods exported to China. It is hoped that the two sides will open more cross-border railway trains, deepen the connection with the new land and sea channel in the west, and lay a more smooth "green channel" for Vietnam's high-quality agricultural products to China. Wang Yi expressed that the current situation in the South China Sea remains generally stable with the joint efforts of China and ASEAN countries. It is precisely some extraterritorial forces with ulterior motives that fear that the South China Sea will not be chaotic. It is in the common interests of China and Vietnam to continue to maintain peace in the South China Sea. We should give full play to the role of the three working groups on land border negotiations and maritime affairs, promote substantial progress in the delimitation outside the mouth of the Beibu Gulf and the joint development of the South China Sea, and avoid unilateral actions that complicate the situation. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration on the conduct of parties in the South China Sea. We should take this opportunity to reach an early agreement on the "code of conduct in the South China Sea" and provide a more solid guarantee for the long-term stability of the South China Sea. Greece and Vietnam should play an active and constructive role in this regard. Pei Qingshan congratulated China on successfully hosting the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and wished the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China a complete success. He said that Vietnam has always regarded relations with China as the top priority of its foreign policy and is willing to strengthen strategic communication with China, consolidate political mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and promote the continuous development of Vietnam China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Pei Qingshan said that Vietnam welcomes China's contribution to promoting peace and talks, ending conflicts and preventing humanitarian crises. Vietnam maintains that it should abide by the Charter of the United Nations and international law and find a long-term solution to differences on the basis of respecting the legitimate rights and interests of all parties.
