Guangdong migratory bird protection "combination boxing" has achieved remarkable results, and the "national treasure of bird world" has visited many regions in the province

2022-03-29

A few days ago, some bird watchers saw the Oriental White Stork, a national first-class protected wild animal and known as the "national treasure of the bird world", in Jiangmen Xinhui yinhuwan Wetland Park for two consecutive days. This is the first time that the Oriental White Stork has been recorded in Jiangmen. Experts believe that migratory birds are an important indicator species of the ecological environment. The discovery of rare migratory birds in many places in Guangdong shows that the ecological situation of the whole province is improving. Oriental white stork is a large wading bird. Last year, the State Forestry and grassland administration and the Ministry of agriculture and rural areas jointly issued the newly adjusted list of national key protected wild animals, adding Oriental White Stork as a national first-class protected wild animal. In recent years, Oriental white storks have successively visited many areas in our province, including Nansha Wetland in Guangzhou, Futian Mangrove in Shenzhen and Leizhou mangrove in Zhanjiang. They generally appear in the form of a single individual, and the number is very rare. According to experts, rare migratory birds such as Oriental White Stork are very sensitive to the environment. Their appearance represents the rich resources of local forests, wetlands and waters and the excellent ecological environment. According to the data of the Provincial Forestry Bureau, the forest area of Jiangmen City is 429200 hectares, and the wetland and water area are 174627.3 hectares, attracting many birds to choose to live here for the winter. In recent years, Guangdong has taken many measures at the same time, focusing on strengthening the construction of 11 International Bird Areas and improving the important role of Guangdong coastal wetlands as an important resting point, breeding ground and wintering place on the migration channel of waterfowl from East Asia to Australasia. In addition, we will continue to promote the construction of 19 waterfowl ecological corridors and 74 ecological nodes in the Pearl River Delta, build a spatial layout of "two horizontal and four vertical, multi branch and multi-point" waterfowl ecological corridors, improve the quality of corridor nodes, repair waterfowl habitats, build a science popularization and education system, develop waterfowl ecotourism and carry out waterfowl corridor monitoring. According to the relevant person in charge of the Provincial Forestry Bureau, March 20-26 is the 41st "Bird Festival" and "bird love week" in Guangdong Province. Various bird love and protection actions have been launched in many places in the province. Next, the provincial forestry department will strictly prevent and crack down on illegal hunting, trading, operation and utilization of migratory birds and other wildlife activities, and organize a wildlife protection volunteer team to carry out migratory bird protection actions to ensure the safety of migratory birds in spring.
