The introduction of Manichaeism into China was related to the then Emperor Wu Zetian. The Tang Dynasty was originally the territory of the Li family. Taoism established by Lao Tzu and Li Er was regarded as a national religion, but Wu Zetian was also a Buddhist. After Wu Zetian ascended the throne, many supporters of Li tangjiangshan criticized her. Wu Zetian was not at ease even when she ascended the throne. One of them is that Zhu Yuanzhang built the country with the help of the power of Ming religion, and used Ming as the country name in order to appease the Ming religion. However, Zhu Yuanzhang realized that religion was unfavorable to rule. After all, he established the Ming Dynasty in this way, so he banned all kinds of heretical beliefs, including Ming religion, immediately after the founding of the people's Republic of China. After the fall of the Ming Dynasty, Manichaeism became white lotus religion. The Ming Dynasty's adherents hiding in the Qing Dynasty hoped to overthrow the Qing Dynasty and re-establish the Ming Dynasty. They often clashed with the Qing court, especially during the Jiaqing period. In 1796, the white lotus sect launched the largest white lotus sect uprising of the Qing Dynasty in Yidu, Hubei Province, with 40000-50000 participants, covering Sichuan, Chu, Shaanxi, Henan and Gansu provinces. In order to suppress them, Jiaqing spent five years of revenue from the state treasury, 200 million liang of silver and mobilized soldiers from 16 provinces. It took 10 years to suppress them. Although the suppression of the Qing Dynasty was successful, the Qing Dynasty changed from prosperity to decline, and Manichaeism gradually dissipated.
