2022-03-10
The board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency was held in Vienna on the 9th. Wang Chang, counsellor of the permanent mission of China to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, made a statement under the topics related to the Iranian nuclear issue. Wang Chang pointed out that at present, the negotiation on the resumption of the implementation of the Iran nuclear comprehensive agreement has reached the final juncture. All parties should increase diplomatic efforts, make a political decision as soon as possible and work hard to solve the remaining problems. As the initiator of the current Iranian nuclear crisis, the United States should completely correct its mistakes, take further practical measures, actively respond to Iran's reasonable concerns and promote negotiations to reach an agreement as soon as possible. All parties should create the necessary conditions and a good atmosphere for the progress of diplomatic efforts. Wang Chang said that China supports the IAEA to continue to uphold the principles of objectivity, neutrality and impartiality and to perform its safeguards responsibilities for Iran's nuclear program in strict accordance with its mandate; Welcome Iran's invitation to the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency to visit Iran and achieve positive results. In particular, the International Atomic Energy Agency and Iran issued a joint statement on the 5th to reach a "road map" for the settlement of relevant issues, and support the two sides to continue to resolve their differences through dialogue. China appreciates Iran's constructive attitude in this regard. Wang Chang stressed that the board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency had adopted a resolution in 2015 to draw conclusions on the possible military aspects of Iran's nuclear program. China is firmly opposed to politicizing the issue of IAEA safeguards, to any country using the issue of safeguards to turn over the historical accounts of Iran's nuclear program, and to relevant parties interfering with and undermining the implementation of the comprehensive agreement. Wang Chang said that China has always firmly upheld the authority and effectiveness of the comprehensive agreement and Security Council resolution 2231, constructively participated in the negotiations and actively promoted peace and talks, with the aim of pushing the comprehensive agreement back on track as soon as possible. China attaches great importance to the important role of the International Atomic Energy Agency in monitoring the implementation of the agreement, and looks forward to the strengthening of dialogue and cooperation between the International Atomic Energy Agency and Iran to jointly promote the smooth start of the resumption of compliance and make steady progress. China will continue to make unremitting efforts to promote the political and diplomatic settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue, and will firmly safeguard China's own legitimate rights and interests.
