With the high popularity of intelligent electronic devices, the social problems brought by e-waste have attracted a lot of attention. However, the recycling rate of electronic products in China is low. According to the white paper 2020 on the recycling, treatment and comprehensive utilization of waste electrical and electronic products in China, the annual treatment capacity of electronic waste in China has reached about 80 million units at this stage. At present, the recovery rate in China is less than 20.5% of the European standard. The current risk of information disclosure worries the public, which to some extent makes it difficult to significantly improve the recovery rate of electronic waste. To protect personal information in electronic waste, let the law grow "teeth". The law of the people's Republic of China on the protection of personal information has come into force since November 1, 2021, which marks a more systematic legal guarantee for personal information rights and interests and a clearer legal guidance for personal information processing activities. In addition, the law on the prevention and control of environmental pollution by solid waste revised in 2020 clearly proposes that the state establish an extended producer responsibility system for electrical and electronic products, lead-acid batteries, vehicle power batteries and other products. The illegal handling of personal information shall be dealt with seriously according to law. To protect personal information in electronic waste, we should use technology to fill the "loophole". An invention patent entitled "a method for protecting personal information in the process of e-waste recycling" is quite eye-catching. This method mainly traces the process of recycling, transportation and disposal of waste electronic products through the two-dimensional code printed by intelligent environmental protection equipment, so as to ensure that the information of waste electronic products is not leaked. We should strengthen the research and development of electronic waste recycling technology, accurately "patch" vulnerabilities, and effectively solve the public's worries. Protecting personal information in electronic waste is a must answer question, which requires the joint response of government departments, enterprises and individuals to form a joint force. Government departments should formulate good policies and effectively supervise the implementation; Enterprises should fulfill their social responsibilities and keep the legal bottom line; Individuals should enhance their awareness of information protection and continuously improve their protection skills.
