With AI blessing, UAV becomes the "loyal wingman" of fighter
2022-02-10
The formation of long aircraft and wingmen has always been a common combat mode of fighters. With the blessing of AI, UAVs can rely on their own advantages, listen to the command of UAVs, and undertake the mission of "loyal wingmen". Act as "eyes and ears" and coordinate situational awareness. In the implementation of over the horizon combat, the traditional UAV detection function will be divided into two links: UAV detection and UAV transmission of detection information to UAV. The unmanned wingman is equipped with reconnaissance payload, or as a node of data and communication system, it takes the lead in going out to the front of the battlefield or the depth of the target defense area. In this process, unmanned wingmen use airborne sensors and advanced data links to continuously transmit information to the long aircraft. Deploying UAVs in a relatively safe range and guiding UAVs to perform tasks can not only improve command flexibility, but also better implement cooperative positioning of passive radiation or active radiation targets, and enhance the situational awareness of UAV and UAV cooperative task formation. Act as "tusks" and cooperate in air control operations. In a complex confrontation environment, one UAV can command multiple UAVs to conduct cooperative air control operations and jointly attack air targets. The traditional tactical coordination style of long aircraft and wingman will evolve into a long-distance command wingman and wait for the opportunity to supplement the attack style. The autonomous modules compatible with different types of UAVs can be loaded on the UAV to provide the pilot with artificial intelligence assisted decision-making, intelligent task planning and interactive interface, share the task pressure, and make the pilot focus on decision-making and the fighter focus on execution. The UAV kept the radar silent and concealed the enemy at high speed like a ghost. When reaching the range of the weapon, the UAV starts the radar to detect the target, transmits the target information to the UAV in real time through the data link network, and commands the UAV to strike. Play the role of "fist and foot" and cooperate with air attack. When carrying out ground or sea attack or short-range fire support missions, manned aircraft often bind their "hands and feet" due to safety considerations. With UAV as a "pawn", the operational radius of the aircraft can be expanded on the premise of protecting the safety of manned platform. The UAV can use the intelligent unmanned wingman as a weapon extension module to control the UAV outside the threat range of the enemy. The UAV can carry guided ammunition and go deep into the front to carry out tasks such as strong assault, wave interception, cluster air control or luring the enemy to fire, which virtually increases the range of long aircraft airborne guided weapons. Under the command of the long plane, it is accurately distributed in the reasonable positions of the opposite attack, ready to stand by and respond flexibly. Act as "bait" and cooperate with electromagnetic suppression. The intelligent unmanned wingman also has great potential in the competition for electromagnetic power. For example, by carrying special electronic equipment and simulating the radar reflection characteristics of a fighter, it can cause the enemy's warning radar to misjudge and induce its air defense radar to turn on, so as to expose the radar frequency and position position and provide target parameters for subsequent anti radiation attack. It can also confuse the enemy's air defense firepower by feigning in advance, so that its firepower can be consumed in intercepting, searching, identifying and tracking these false targets, so as to open up a firepower gap for subsequent fighters to carry out effective assault. The unmanned wingman moves from conception to battlefield step by step, which is supported by the combat capability of the system, including the intelligent upgrading of platform system, the improvement of battlefield network system, the construction of data resource system, etc. The future air combat scenario may evolve into a UAV formation led by a manned aircraft, presenting a new systematic combat style of man-machine coordination.
