Stepping on the tiger to find "Hualang" and "chiseling flowers" have high skills

In Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan Province, which is located in the hinterland of Wuling mountains, there used to be "Hualang" who carried baskets to sell "patterns" of colored paper. Most of them come from Tahu village, Luxi County, Xiangxi Prefecture. The various "patterns" sold will soon be embroidered into beautiful "patterns" on the clothes of the Miao family by the Miao girls. These "patterns" were "chiseled" on a special wax plate with a carving knife. Because they originated from Tahu village, they later had a very vivid name - "Tahu chiseling flowers". "According to the available data, 'stepping on a tiger and chiseling flowers' originated in the Wei, Jin and Northern and Southern Dynasties. In the past, because' Hualang 'walked around and walked through villages and villages, this craft was passed on only to men but not to women." Yang Guijun, the provincial representative successor of "stepping on the tiger and chiseling flowers", said that in the past, half of the people in stepping on the tiger village were "Hualang", which they relied on for a living. It was not until the appearance of a "Hualang" in the tiger village called Huang depending on the sky that "tiger digging flowers" gradually moved from "life" to "art", and the formal documentation began from Huang depending on the sky. The late Huang Ketian, formerly known as Huang Mingsheng, a Miao nationality, began to learn "stepping on a tiger and chiseling flowers" at the age of 12, with skilled and exquisite skills. Since the 1980s, a series of his works have been frequently exhibited in the world and attracted the attention of the outside world. Since then, "stepping on the tiger and chiseling flowers", a unique Miao folk traditional handicraft in Luxi County, has really come out of the deep mountain Miao village and become famous at home and abroad. In 2008, "stepping on the tiger and chiseling flowers" was selected into the list of the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage expansion projects. Yang Guijun is Huang Ketian's disciple. In the Taihu flower chiseling training center in Luxi County, he and his disciples inherited this exquisite and complex technology with a carving knife, a wax plate and a stack of colored paper. In the flying of paper scraps, exquisite "flower chiseling" works were born under the tip of the knife. "Many people mistakenly think that 'stepping on the tiger and chiseling flowers' is' paper cutting', but it is not. The whole process is completed with a carving knife, not with scissors." Li Tieqi, the representative inheritor of "stepping on the tiger and chiseling flowers" at the state level, introduced that "stepping on the tiger and chiseling flowers" is also known as "paper cutting art without scissors". Nowadays, the Hawking of "Hualang" can no longer be heard in Miao village, and the people in Tahu village no longer make a living by selling "chiseled flowers". The former "Hualang" has become a historical relic. The ancient motto of "pass on men but not women" has also been completely broken by more and more female students. In 2009, Luxi County established a tiger treading and flower chiseling workshop. In order to further protect and inherit this valuable handicraft, the local intangible cultural heritage "into the organs, into the campus, into the countryside and into the community" activity was carried out to create a profound intangible cultural atmosphere. So far, more than 12000 people have been trained, helped more than 3700 people realize new ways of employment and increased their income. During the Spring Festival, the reporter came to tap Tiger Village, the birthplace of "tap tiger chisel flower". Huang Ketian's nephew and grandson and representative inheritor at the county level, Huang Yonghong, was busy in his own small "studio". The carving knife scratched on the colored paper padded with wax plates, and there was a rustle... Finally, as Huang Yonghong blew away the remaining fine scraps of paper, more than a dozen red and blue lovely "Little Tigers" jumped out lightly (outlook new era)
