Chinese negotiator: China supports Iran's principled position of resolving the Iranian nuclear issue through negotiations
2022-02-09
The parties to the comprehensive agreement on Iran's nuclear issue continued the eighth round of negotiations on the resumption of compliance between the United States and Iran in the Austrian capital Vienna on the 8th. Wang Qun, Chinese negotiator and permanent representative of China to the United Nations in Vienna, said that China supports Iran's principled position of resolving the issue through negotiation. In an interview with reporters on issues related to the Iranian nuclear negotiations on the same day, Wang Qun said that generally speaking, the current negotiations are taking positive steps towards the final settlement of the problem. All parties should cherish the hard won progress made in the negotiations, focus on outstanding issues such as the lifting of sanctions and economic guarantees, further forge consensus and strive to reach an agreement as soon as possible. First, we should keep walking in the opposite direction. China has taken note of some efforts made by the US and Europe "package" to resolve outstanding issues of concern to Iran, as well as the US decision to waive sanctions on Iran's civilian nuclear program, including the Arak heavy water reactor, and believes that this is a correct step towards promoting the settlement of the issue. China supports Iran's principled position of resolving the issue through negotiation and hopes that all parties will continue to listen to Iran's views on the "package" in a constructive manner, pay full attention to Iran's legitimate rights and interests and solve Iran's reasonable demands. At the same time, China hopes that Iran can take corresponding steps and go in the opposite direction. In particular, relevant demands will be formally put forward in the form of text for discussion by all parties. The second is to create a good atmosphere. China agrees to further enhance the sense of urgency of negotiations, but the artificial setting of negotiation time limit is not constructive. The goodwill and flexibility of all parties should be further reflected in the negotiation as soon as possible. Third, implement the negotiation will and words. We should focus on the lifting of sanctions, which is not only the primary concern of Iran, but also an important issue of concern to China. As the initiator of the current Iranian nuclear crisis, the United States should lift all relevant illegal unilateral sanctions against Iran and third parties, including China, and win the trust of the international community with practical actions; Iran resumed full compliance on this basis. China believes that the lifting of sanctions should not only be reflected in words, but also be implemented through specific measures. Fourth, any plan must ensure that China's legitimate and reasonable concerns are addressed. The US side needs to earnestly fulfill its commitments, respect China's legitimate rights and interests, and solve the sanctions related to Chinese entities and individuals. Wang Qun stressed that the history of Iran's nuclear negotiations has repeatedly proved that dialogue and negotiation is the only way out for the Iranian nuclear issue. It is hoped that all parties will adhere to the correct direction of political settlement and remain patient and determined. China will continue to firmly support the resumption of the negotiation process between the United States and Iran, and work with all parties to jointly promote an early breakthrough in the negotiations.
