Opening "beast Hotel" to attract tourists is not the right way for animal protection

"A hotel where you can sleep with beasts". Do you want to stay? Dare you check in? Recently, a tiger viewing room with a hotel in a zoo in Nantong, Jiangsu Province triggered a heated discussion. It is reported that the room is separated from the tiger by bulletproof glass. Through the glass, you can see the tiger walking back and forth. The staff said that whether the "tiger view house" should be opened or not should wait for the government's notice. According to the publicity when the hotel opened, it plans to open not only tiger rooms, but also giraffe, zebra and lion rooms. These ideas are indeed eye-catching and are likely to be welcomed and pursued by tourists. But is it necessary for tourists to have such an experience? Is it really good to stare at animals like this? In recent years, similar in-depth animal experience projects are in the ascendant, "giraffe Manor", "little panda Manor" and other projects have become "online Red" hotels that tourists are keen to punch in. It's hard to say how much innovation there is in this "beast Hotel" in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, but it's a simple copy of similar commercial projects. It should be admitted that many people have the hobby of communicating and contacting with animals, which comes not only from the history of human survival and evolution, but also from the lack of natural experience of urban residents. Among them, the most typical is feeding food to animals. Illegal feeding is common in zoos, which poses a significant threat to animal health. From the early hunting for survival purposes to the destruction of wildlife habitat by human activities in the industrial era, to the consensus of the harmonious development between man and nature, the coexistence mode between man and wildlife has undergone earth shaking changes. Whether the "beast Hotel" can be allowed is essentially a question of how people interact with animals. As we all know, zoos have two basic functions: one is based on the protection of species, and the other is to carry out popular science education on the basis of protection. Opening a "beast Hotel" in the zoo is not conducive to animal protection, nor is it the right way of popular science education. Tourists and beasts "live in the same room". Even if they do enough security, they will inevitably feel nervous. In the final analysis, opening a "beast Hotel" is just a gimmick made by the operator for profit. The "circle" of animals in a narrow space makes them forced to "stare at small eyes" with guests, which inevitably affects the behavior of animals and destroys their regular life. Of course, the harmonious development between man and nature does not mean that man is completely isolated from nature. As long as scientific methods are followed, human beings can still enter nature and interact with wild animals appropriately. For example, in some nature reserves, within the allowable range of ecological carrying capacity, humans can moderately visit, learn about animal habits from a long distance, take photos, record and other tourism activities. In recent years, with the ecological restoration and population growth, some wild animals have also "intruded" into areas traditionally inhabited by human beings. For example, some migratory birds will spend the winter in the city's parks and interact with tourists. Last year, wild elephants from Pu'er, Yunnan Province traveled all the way to the suburbs of Kunming, which has also become a fresh case of harmony between man and nature. Wild animals belong to nature. No matter what form of animal protection is used, the ultimate goal should be to let them return to nature and grow freely in their native habitat. Nowadays, some people regard wild animals as playthings, which not only kills their inherent wildness, but also violates the purpose of animal protection. (Xinhua News Agency)
