Guterres called on all countries to work together to make 2022 a year of real recovery
2022-01-18
UN Secretary General Guterres delivered a speech to the 2022 World Economic Forum Video Conference on the 17th, calling on the international community to work together to make 2022 a year of real recovery. Guterres pointed out in his speech that the global economy is heading for a slow recovery from stagnation, but the continued spread of COVID-19 and the battered labor market have made the global economic recovery still fragile. Guterres stressed that the past two years have proved the fact that "giving up anyone means giving up everyone". To achieve real change, everyone needs to work together. Guterres said that the international community needs to maintain fairness and impartiality in the process of dealing with COVID-19. "The rate of vaccination in high-income countries is 7 times higher than that in African countries. We now need a fair vaccine." He also called on the international community to reform the global financial system and support developing countries in implementing more effective actions to address climate change. Guterres pointed out that inequality and injustice make tens of millions of people in a difficult situation. All countries need to unite and jointly provide support to those countries and people who need help most. (outlook new era)
