China has made great contributions to global poverty reduction

Building a "one belt, one road" is developing towards a high standard of sustainable and people's livelihood. It is of great significance to the global poverty reduction. I come from the United States. Our family has been "China experts" for three generations. We are deeply touched by China's great efforts to eradicate absolute poverty. My understanding of China began in the early 1960s. The grandparents who had lived in China for 30 years told the story of their life in China and the story of the Chinese people's indomitable resistance to foreign invaders despite their extremely difficult life during the war of resistance against Japan. After graduating from university in 1979, I came to China. At that time, China had just started the pace of reform and opening up. Over the past 40 years, China has made great achievements in development and earth shaking changes have taken place in its economy and society. In the mid-1980s, I went to work at the world bank. Since then, I have been reading reports about the improvement of Chinese residents' living standards and the decline of poverty rate. In 2010, I finally had the opportunity to return to China. New apartment buildings and office buildings can be seen everywhere, and the leisure, entertainment and living service facilities have been greatly improved. Many cities have convenient and efficient subway and high-speed rail systems. Even in some small and medium-sized cities, there are modern new airports. Great changes have taken place in the clothing, food, housing and transportation of the Chinese people, both in cities and villages. Since the reform and opening up, China's poverty reduction population has accounted for more than 70% of the global poverty reduction population in the same period, making great contributions to the realization of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The Chinese government has set goals and policies for poverty reduction, and adheres to hard work. China has historically eradicated absolute poverty and achieved the poverty reduction goal of the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development 10 years ahead of schedule, which is a remarkable achievement. Today, China's efforts to improve people's living standards continue. At the same time, China has actively shared its experience in poverty reduction with other countries and made great contributions to global poverty reduction. China's proposed "one belt, one road" initiative will bring huge benefits to the countries along the line and help more countries to reduce poverty. The world bank's one study shows that one belt, one road initiative will enable 32 million people to get rid of the moderate poverty situation of daily average cost of living below 3.2 dollars. At present, the one belt, one road road is developing towards a high standard and sustainable development. It is of great significance to the global poverty alleviation. China's economy is moving towards high-quality development, showing vigorous vitality and great potential. China is deeply aware that reducing poverty and increasing human well-being are not just about achieving the growth of per capita income. China's 14th five year plan emphasizes achieving higher quality, more efficient, fairer, more sustainable and safer development, pointing out the direction for high-quality development. "Green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains" has increasingly become a broad consensus in China. Two years ago, I visited China as a staff member of the World Resources Research Institute. I was very excited to see China's achievements in green development and ecological civilization. China announced that it would strive to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutralization by 2060, which is another important measure for China to promote high-quality economic development. The clean energy investment required to achieve this goal will not only benefit China, but also help reduce the cost of global clean energy. (outlook new era)
