The change of name is naturally well founded. From the reply, Beijing Metro did also refer to the relevant provisions, thus obtaining such a translation method. However, the purpose of translation is to communicate. Considering the practicability, I'm afraid the opinions of netizens are not groaning without illness. Change XX station to XX Zhan, and the English translation of the station name is actually the same as pinyin. For Chinese people, the vast majority of people can read without the help of Pinyin, and I'm afraid they can read more than Pinyin. Some elderly people may not know Pinyin. Many of our compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas Chinese at home and abroad also know only Chinese characters but not Pinyin. For foreigners, I'm afraid most of them don't know Pinyin. It's estimated that Zhan's translation can be learned now. Then, this way of translation may fall into a situation: the Chinese don't need it, and foreigners don't understand it. Whether it is translation or phonetic notation is a little vague. Therefore, who is the audience of this translation and how much it means to facilitate communication? We might as well consider these practical and purposeful issues. There is a data worthy of reference. In 2019 before the epidemic, the number of inbound tourists in China reached 145 million. We are in an irreversible era of globalization, and personnel exchanges have become a rigid need. How to add convenience facilities and signs and how to unify standards need to be considered.
