Handover and opening ceremony of phase II of China aided rural water supply project in Cambodia

The handover and opening ceremony of the second phase of China aided rural water supply project in Cambodia was held in kampong Chhnang, Cambodia on September 9. Wu Guoquan, economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, handed over the project handover certificate with Cambodian Minister of rural development ulaben at the ceremony. The second phase of China aided rural water supply project in Cambodia is contracted by China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co., Ltd., and the Chinese management company is China Urban Construction Research Institute Co., Ltd. The project was started in November 2019, with a construction period of two years. 54 ponds and 964 tube wells were built in 10 provinces of Cambodia. Ulaben expressed his deep gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their assistance to the project and believed that the project is very important to promote rural economic development and improve people's livelihood in Cambodia. Urapen praised the Cambodia project team for its successful and efficient completion of the project under COVID-19. He said that these wells and community ponds will help improve local living conditions, reduce poverty, promote rural economic growth and narrow the development gap between urban and rural areas. Wu Guoquan introduced that the first phase of China aided rural water supply project in Cambodia was started in 2017, which is the first batch of localization projects implemented by the Chinese government in Cambodia. Over the past four years, the Chinese government has helped Cambodia's 16 provinces build more than 1800 deep water wells and nearly 130 community ponds, effectively solving the problems of drinking water shortage and water sanitation for rural people, improving the level of community epidemic prevention and improving the villagers' quality of life and production conditions. He said that with the deepening of friendly and cooperative relations between China and Cambodia, more livelihood projects will be implemented, and more "springs of benefiting the people" and "springs of friendship" will emerge in the future.
