International observation: the United States with formal democracy is not qualified to be a world teacher

2021-12-07

On December 9, the United States will hold the so-called "leading the people summit". However, international voices generally believe that the United States has lost the "moral highland" to "teach" democratic experience to the world. According to the Pew poll in June this year, only 14% of the people in Germany believe that American democracy is worth emulating. The poll results of France, Britain, South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand are also roughly similar. The Washington Post regretfully pointed out that American allies believe that American democracy has collapsed and become a "completely finished" past. It is widely believed that the Congressional riots that took place earlier this year stamped the bubble of American democracy myth. Because they do not recognize the results of the 2020 general election, groups of "mobs" have invaded the cornerstone of people's sovereignty - Congress. The gates of the Capitol were broken and the signs trampled. President Trump's "freedom of speech" was collectively blocked by American social media. As Haas, President of the US Council on foreign relations, said, after the world watched this democratic farce, the saying of "city on the top of the mountain" has come to an end. "Only rotten trees can grow bad apples." congressional riots are not so much the cause of the collapse of the myth of American democracy as a symptom of the systemic ills of American democracy. Democracy is not an embroidered pillow, but to solve people's problems. Today, the novel coronavirus pneumonia death toll in the United States has exceeded that of any war launched or participated by it. Ethnic minorities are discriminated against and bullied in education, employment, health care and other aspects; Tens of thousands of civilians die from gun violence every year; Refugee children on the US Mexico border are being confined to narrow spaces like sardine cans and suffering. Polls show that more than 80% of Americans are dissatisfied with their democracy. In the election, we try to win over the voters, and after the election, we don't care about the people's demands. Such democracy is tantamount to a mirage. In 1988, when the then Vice President George Herbert Walker Bush ran for president, he made an eye-catching promise - no new taxes. Just two years after becoming president, Bush admitted that repairing the U.S. economy requires a series of measures, including "increasing taxes". During the election campaign, he flattered the public, and after he was elected, he selectively abandoned his promises. Bush is not the only American president to do so. Statistics show that of the 533 promises made by Obama during the campaign, only 48% were fulfilled, less than half; Trump's election promise has only been fulfilled by 21%. Voters only enjoy a pet Carnival at the once-in-four canvassing time, and no one cares about the problems they need to solve after the election. During the election campaign, incumbent US President Biden promised to "unite and heal" and pursue a moderate position. But American media pointed out that Biden now seems to be taking a radical agenda. The U.S. Capitol Hill newspaper said that Biden's 180 degree turn between his election commitment and his actions after taking office has increased public distrust of the government. The fact is that the US political polarization and social tear are becoming more and more intense, and the US government is unable to "do things well". American media pointed out that the failure of the government has led to that no matter which political party comes to power, their response to the needs of the state and the public is breeding anger, hostility, hatred and cynicism. This emotion is full of daily life: the violence on the plane, the threat to people with different political views, the large purchase of self-defense weapons and the overall rudeness of interpersonal relations, "these are the exact symptoms of the political cancer that is eroding democracy". The gorgeous dress of American democracy has long been full of loopholes, but it ridicules others for wearing simple but comfortable clothes. A hypocritical, ineffective, decaying democratic system full of lies and formalism is not qualified to be a democracy teacher all over the world. (outlook new era)
