The press conference on the group standard of probiotic food sponsored by China Food Industry Association was held in Beijing a few days ago. The group standard of probiotic food (hereinafter referred to as "group standard") formally defines "probiotic food" from the perspective of industry overall planning; From the perspective of industry planning, clarify the regulatory basis that probiotic strains used in "probiotic food" should meet, which is expected to promote the high-quality development of probiotic food consumption in China. Probiotic food refers to the food added with probiotics that meet the requirements of relevant laws and regulations, and the quantity of live probiotics within the shelf life meets certain requirements. Li Yu, chief engineer of China Food Industry Association, said that China's probiotic food market is developing rapidly at this stage, but some products have the problem of exaggerated publicity, uneven product quality and vague labels. The formulation of the group standard not only cooperates with the construction of the national improvement of food safety standards, quality standards and normative system, but also provides a reference basis for the differentiated innovation of enterprises within the framework of laws and regulations, and contributes to the rapid development of China's food industry. From 2015 to 2020, the scale of China's Probiotic market increased from 48.6 billion yuan to 85 billion yuan, with an annual average of more than 15%. At the same time, since 2000, the number of papers on probiotic related research has continued to grow steadily. By 2018, the number of annual papers published in China surpassed that in the United States, becoming the backbone of probiotic research. With the two-way promotion of food economy and science and technology, China is expected to develop more strains with independent intellectual property rights and high added value in the future, break the foreign technological monopoly, break free from the neck crisis of core technology, and create a more scientific, healthier and more humanized probiotic food environment.
