The auction market of ancient calligraphy and painting is more cautious this autumn
2021-12-06
Beijing Poly 2021 autumn auction held a hammer the night before yesterday. The three blockbuster auctions of the song and Yuan Dynasties, the extension of the Wu Orchid Pavilion volume of the Royal Palace of the Song Dynasty - one of the first tour phase Orchid Pavilion, the continued biography of eminent monks written by the Song Dynasty, and the brocade map by Wang Zhenpeng of the Yuan Dynasty, were all sold. The brocade map with the highest transaction price was started at 30 million yuan, and finally ended at 66 million yuan, including a commission of 75.9 million yuan. Wang Zhenpeng's "map of the championship" first appeared on the auction site at Christie's auction house in New York in 1994. It came from an American collector. At that time, the reserve price of the auction was $1.5 million. In that year, some buyers were willing to bid us $1.2 million to US $1.3 million, but the transaction failed because the client insisted on asking us $1.5 million. Nearly 30 years later, the reappearance of the "championship map" has attracted the attention of the collection community. The painting depicts the dragon boat racing activities in jinmingchi, the court of the Northern Song Dynasty. On the one hand, it shows the meaning of winning the bid and competing for brocade, on the other hand, it also has the meaning of peace and prosperity of the monarch and the people. The spring auction of Xu Yang's painting of offering prisoners in calming the western regions sold for RMB 414 million, breaking the transaction record of ancient Chinese calligraphy and painting auction in 2021. However, at present, the auction industry focuses more on the word "stability". After careful selection and adjustment, we did not choose to continue the high price auction strategy of 300 million to 500 million yuan. We decided to auction works with rich connotation, low valuation and large spatial elasticity. The overall autumn auction of about 80 works of ancient calligraphy and painting at night, most of which are at a conservative valuation of less than 10 million yuan Li Xuesong, art director of ancient Chinese calligraphy and painting at Beijing Poly auction, said.
