British F-35B fighter crashed into the sea

2021-12-01

According to the British Ministry of defense, at about 10:00 local time on November 17, an F-35B lightning II short-range / vertical takeoff and landing stealth fighter (hereinafter referred to as F-35B fighter) taking off from the aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth of the Royal Navy fell into the sea during the mission, and the pilot ejected from the cabin and was rescued. At present, the Royal Navy is organizing manpower to salvage the crashed fighter. F-35B "lightning" II short range / vertical takeoff and landing stealth fighter Air Force fighters on aircraft carriers On May 22 this year, when the aircraft carrier "Queen Elizabeth" and the escort warship formed an aircraft carrier strike group to carry out the first overseas deployment mission, the British Ministry of defense proudly declared that this trip to Asia was the largest overseas dispatch of sea and air armed forces by Britain in recent years. In fact, the "Queen Elizabeth" aircraft carrier carrying out this voyage did not even have a shipborne fighter belonging to the Royal Navy. At that time, the F-35B fighter purchased by the Royal Navy had not yet formed combat effectiveness. In order to make up for the vacancy of Shipborne air force, the Royal Navy invited F-35B fighters from the Royal Air Force and the U.S. Marine Corps to board, including 8 F-35B fighters from the Royal Air Force and 10 F-35B fighters from the U.S. Marine Corps. This avoids the embarrassment that the aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth has no carrier based aircraft available. Unlike other national air forces, the Royal Air Force has a tradition of short-range / vertical takeoff and landing fighters that can be carried by aircraft carriers, and the equipment history is even earlier than that of the Royal Navy. At the beginning of the cold war, in order to meet the requirements of decentralized deployment and rapid take-off and landing operations, the Royal Air Force launched the Harrier attack aircraft, which is the first short-range / vertical take-off and landing fighter in the world. Later, based on the Harrier attack aircraft, the Royal Navy launched the Harrier fighter. After the outbreak of the Falklands naval battle, the Royal Navy dispatched two light aircraft carriers, invincible and competitive God. Because the "harrier" fighter carried on the aircraft carrier is mainly used for air defense interception and anti-ship operations, and the land attack effect is poor, it is also equipped with a "harrier" attack aircraft. This is the first time that the Royal Air Force's short range / vertical takeoff and landing fighter has been deployed on an aircraft carrier. Although the Harrier attack aircraft showed strong land attack capability in the operation, after the British landed on the island, these Air Force fighters were quickly transferred to the land airport for operation to avoid the potential safety hazards caused by taking off and landing on board. After the end of the cold war, the British Ministry of defense established a joint rapid deployment force of the three services to carry out mixed deployment of land, sea and air forces. In January 1998, the "invincible" aircraft carrier set sail with 7 harrier attack aircraft and 12 harrier fighters to cooperate with the US military in air strikes against Iraq. Before boarding, the Harrier attack aircraft was refitted, and the pilot was also equipped with marine life-saving devices. Crash "with fire" ejection seat As a first-class partner of the F-35 fighter project, Britain will purchase 138 F-35B fighters for the replacement of the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy to replace the Harrier attack aircraft and sea harrier fighters. In theory, these F-35B fighters can be deployed in a hybrid manner. The F-35B is the world's first large-scale train mounted short-range / vertical takeoff and landing stealth fighter. The aircraft can carry a variety of weapons to carry out ground and sea attacks and air combat missions. The design difficulty of this short-range / vertical takeoff and landing fighter is the control system, which needs to ensure the flexible switching of engine nozzle between vertical takeoff and landing and flight. The control system of F-35B fighter has a high degree of automation. It can quickly adjust the engine thrust according to the flight command and adjust the angle of vectoring nozzle to realize vertical takeoff and landing or high-speed level flight. However, in practical use, this advanced fighter is in constant trouble. At present, three have crashed. After the news of the crash, the British Martin Baker company, the ejection seat manufacturer of the accidentally "fire" F-35B fighter, was released. The company advertised on its website: "so far, we have saved the lives of 7662 pilots around the world." Martin Baker is the first company engaged in the design and production of ejection seats in the world. Shortly after the end of the Second World War, the company installed its designed and produced ejection seat on the "meteor" jet fighter for ejection test, opening the "life-saving legend" of ejection seat. F-35 series fighters are equipped with mk16-us16e ejection seats produced by Martin Baker company. So far, this ejection seat has successfully ejected the pilot from the cabin in many F-35 series fighter crashes. Salvage the wreckage of the fighter After the crash, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said that the crash may be caused by technical failure or human error, and the preliminary investigation report will be released in a few weeks. At present, the British Ministry of defense is organizing manpower to "grab" the F-35B fighter that fell into the sea. According to British media reports, because the crash site is located in the eastern Mediterranean, there are often Russian Black Sea Fleet haunted here. To this end, the Royal Navy has blocked the sea area of the incident. On the afternoon of the day of the crash, after the position of the F-35B fighter was locked, the Royal Navy sent divers to protect the wreckage of the fighter sinking into the seabed and sent fighters to patrol the nearby airspace. For the Royal Navy's practice of "facing great enemies" after the crash, it was commented that the so-called "fishing" was more like a drama directed and performed by the British military, so as to cover up the embarrassment after the F-35B fighter fell into the sea.
