The Judicial Police Bureau of the Macao SAR government held a press conference on the 28th to announce the detection of a case involving criminal groups, illegal gambling and money laundering, and detained 11 people, including a 47 year old businessman surnamed Zhou. The case was then transferred to the Special Administrative Region procuratorate for investigation. According to the police department, the case was learned and investigated by the Department Based on intelligence collection in 2019. Each person involved in the case admitted that he had set up relevant gambling platforms and carried out power investment criminal activities overseas, but refused to cooperate with other investigations. The press conference announced a large number of computer devices, servers and electronic storage devices seized by the police, as well as seized account books, notes and cash. According to the police department, in August 2019, based on intelligence collection, the Bureau learned that Macao was headed by a criminal group surnamed Zhou, used the VIP Hall business of casinos in Macao to set up gambling platforms overseas, and solicited mainland residents to engage in illegal online gambling. The group transfers and conceals the illegal property obtained through the VIP Club account of the casino through underground banks. In April 2020, the police department listed the case as a special case for in-depth investigation, and took action in the early morning of November 27 this year to successfully seize 11 suspects in multiple units of a commercial building in the imperial dynasty and a residential unit in Luhuan.
