How many steps are there in building a hospital in space?

NASA astronaut Scott stayed at the international space station for 340 days. After returning to earth, he compared with his twin brothers with the same gene. The results showed that Scott had a mutation in his "immune system and DNA repair function", which was a permanent damage that could not be recovered. People's visual map People who eat cereals will inevitably get sick. If the journey of mankind is the sea of stars, should there be hospitals in space? Can the rich ray resources in the universe be used to kill cancer cells? Will space weightlessness help alleviate intervertebral disc herniation? Du Jichen has long thought of these things. As an academician of the International Academy of Astronautics, general manager of aerospace medical and Health Technology Group Co., Ltd. and President of Aerospace Center Hospital, his team has begun to make preparations for building a space hospital. On the evening of November 18, the "2021 International Symposium on the peaceful use of space technology (Health)" was opened in Beijing in an online format, with the participation of scientists, astronauts and entrepreneurs from China, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and other countries. Du Jichen put forward his specific idea of "space hospital" at the meeting. The successful exploration of outer space is one of the greatest practices in human history. Since the successful first flight of Soviet astronauts in 1961, human beings have never stopped exploring space and constantly adjusted their goals. Du Jichen introduced that at present, the highest record of personal cumulative space flight has reached 879 days, and the longest distance that human spacecraft can reach is more than 400000 kilometers from the earth. The ubiquitous radiation, microgravity and noise in manned spacecraft in the space environment will reduce the work efficiency of astronauts and even damage their health. In order to better extend human civilization to the deeper space, we must deal with the negative impact of these complex environments on space navigation and ensure the physical and mental health of astronauts. The space hospital he envisioned is a comprehensive medical body set up in space. It can not only provide health monitoring, disease diagnosis, prevention and rehabilitation care for personnel entering space, but also provide special diagnosis and treatment services for difficult diseases on earth. How to build a space hospital? Du Jichen believes that space hospitals need inspection and diagnosis systems, treatment systems and rehabilitation systems. As we all know, traditional medical imaging equipment such as CT and MRI can not be carried in space because of their disadvantages such as large volume, difficult movement, high radiation coefficient and high magnetic field. Although the ultrasonic machine has a precedent of on orbit work, its image quality is difficult to meet the requirements of clinical diagnosis. Therefore, he believes that the integrated medical imaging examination platform of space hospital should first have the characteristics of portability, light volume and ultra-low magnetic field. At the same time, it also needs to integrate optimized scanning imaging system, automatic data acquisition system and remote control system, so that medical personnel on the space station or on the ground can obtain clear and comprehensive image data in real time, Then combined with the artificial intelligence aided diagnosis system to realize the independent identification and labeling of suspicious lesions, so as to further improve the accuracy of disease judgment. He said that the formulation of disease diagnosis standards for space hospitals is a key link and necessary prerequisite for space clinical medicine research. On the basis of clear diagnosis, giving timely and effective emergency treatment and medical treatment is not only the core task of space hospital, but also the bottleneck of the development of space clinical medicine. For example, taking medicine is not the same thing on earth and in space. The changes of stomach, intestine, liver and kidney functions and the redistribution of body fluids caused by space environment will change the process of drug absorption, distribution and metabolism, and then directly affect the efficacy and safety of drugs. "This requires us to study drug preparations suitable for space environment, explore multiple ways of administration, and formulate Drug Guidelines different from those on the ground," Du Jichen said. The situation is even more complicated if surgery is to be performed in space. Du Jichen believes that the core of the space operating room is to establish robot autonomous surgery. He believes that the robot has a manipulator and computer control system, which can realize the functions of perception, reasoning and decision-making, and can complete various tasks in the space environment. At the same time, the robot has the functions of remote video operation and man-machine communication. It can determine the spatial position of its components and surgical objects through the three-dimensional positioning system, and then use sensors to cooperate with the vision system to complete various fine operations. Does that sound like science fiction? Since the successful survival of mankind in space, the demand and exploration of medicine have always been accompanied. The idea of space hospital is not without roots. The aerospace medical science and technology innovation center and Aerospace Medical Center established by Du Jichen and others have begun relevant practice and exploration. In his opinion, the construction of space hospital is a systematic project. "The achievement of this task is by no means achievable by a single field or technical team. We need to build a unified combat platform, integrate high-quality resources in different fields and directions such as industry, University, research and medicine, give full play to their respective strengths and share achievements". Du Jichen believes that in the future, when the space hospital is completed in the universe, it will contribute its due wisdom and strength to human deep space exploration and long-term space survival. Even problems that are difficult for earth residents to solve with conventional treatment are expected to be solved in space hospitals. (outlook new era)
