The 28th informal leaders' meeting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) will be held by video on the 12th. New Zealand, the rotating chairman, will preside over the meeting. APEC is the highest level, most extensive and most influential economic cooperation mechanism in the Asia Pacific region. APEC has five levels of operational mechanisms: informal leaders' meeting, ministerial meeting, senior officials' meeting, committee and working group, and Secretariat. Among them, the informal leaders' meeting is the highest level meeting of APEC. In July 1993, the United States proposed to convene a summit after the Fifth APEC Ministerial Meeting. Because it did not get the approval of all members, the summit was named "informal leaders' meeting". In November of the same year, the first APEC informal leaders' meeting was held in Seattle, USA, attended by leaders or representatives of all members. The informal leaders' meeting conducted in-depth discussions on topics of common concern to all members, formed broad consensus on key issues, and adopted a series of outcome documents as a guiding document to guide the next stage of cooperation and development among members. The Chinese president attended the previous informal APEC leaders' meetings and expounded his views and propositions on a series of major issues such as the global and regional situation and the direction of APEC cooperation, which played a positive and constructive role in the success of the previous meetings. Influenced by COVID-19, the conference will be held in a video conference this year by New Zealand's chairman of the Asia Pacific economic cooperation.
