Astronomers may discover extragalactic planets for the first time
2021-10-27
A NASA space telescope may have captured a planet outside the Milky way for the first time, the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics said in a statement on the 25th. The "possible candidate planet" is located in the spiral galaxy "Messier 51A" 28 million light-years away. The statement said that all extrasolar planets previously discovered by humans are located in the Milky way, less than 3000 light-years away from the earth. Researchers published a 44 page report in the latest issue of nature astronomy, announcing the detailed process of discovering the planet, the Times reported. The researchers say their research method may open a new chapter for human beings to explore the unknown world of the universe and make it possible to find extragalactic planets. (Xinhua News Agency)
