2025-05-14

On the 13th, Canadian Prime Minister Carney announced the new cabinet list, appointed a new Foreign Minister, and created the position of Canada US Trade Minister. In addition to the Prime Minister, the new cabinet is composed of 28 ministers. Anita Anand, who previously held important positions in former Prime Minister Trudeau's government, has been appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dominic Lebron, former Minister of International Trade, has been appointed as Chairman of the Canadian Privy Council and Minister responsible for Canada US trade, intergovernmental affairs, and Canadian economic integration. Finance Minister Shang Pengfei remains in office. Canadian public opinion generally believes that the new cabinet will continue to focus on combating US tariffs and developing the country's economy. On March 9th, Carney was overwhelmingly elected as the new leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. On March 14th, he succeeded Trudeau as the 24th Prime Minister of Canada and formed his first cabinet. In the Canadian House of Representatives election held on April 28th, the Liberal Party won and Carney remained as Prime Minister. However, due to the Liberal Party's less than half of the seats, they were unable to obtain the status of a majority government and could only form a minority government. The new federal House of Representatives will open on May 26th. (New Society)
