The original Huangmei opera "Huizhou Women" and "Huizhou Memories" will be staged at The Venetian Macao Theatre on May 23rd and 25th respectively. This is the first time that Huangmei Opera, a representative project of national intangible cultural heritage, has landed in Macau with a large-scale complete repertoire lineup. The two plays are led by Han Zaifen, winner of the Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award, and performed by Anhui Zaifen Huangmei Art Theater and Anqing Normal University Huangmei Opera Art College. The premiere of 'Huizhou Women' has been over 20 years and it is a timeless classic. The play vividly depicts the fate trajectory of Huizhou women through four acts of "marriage," "longing," "chanting," and "returning," using beautiful and poetic stage language, and presents it to the audience with minimalist opera aesthetics. Huizhou Memories "is an innovative Huangmei opera work, set in Huizhou during the late Qing Dynasty, telling the legendary life of a woman named Shu Xiang. This performance is supported by the National Arts Fund and is an important part of the Macau Anhui Huangmei Opera Culture Week at the 5th Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Theatre Culture Festival. The 5th Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Theatre Culture Festival will be jointly held from March to May in Macau, Hong Kong, and Guangzhou, hosted by the Chinese Dramatists Association, the Cultural Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, the West Kowloon Cultural District Administration of Hong Kong, and the Guangdong Federation of Literary and Art Circles.
