On the 8th, the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region held a ceremony for the completion of the main expansion project of the integrated building, marking the successful completion of Hong Kong's first project to expand an existing public building using the assembly and synthesis method. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, presided over the lighting ceremony, which was attended by the President of the Legislative Council, Andrew Leung, key government officials, and members of the Legislative Council. During his speech at the ceremony, Leung Chun yan stated that the expansion project took three years and posed a huge challenge. During this period, it was necessary to ensure the normal operation of the Legislative Council, as well as to overcome the impact of site leakage, construction noise, air pollution, and other factors on legislators and staff. In the end, the project was completed several months faster than originally planned. According to the improved electoral system in Hong Kong, the number of seats in the seventh Legislative Council has increased from 70 to 90. However, the original office location of the Legislative Council building can only meet the work needs of up to 75 members, which is seriously insufficient. The SAR government suggests that the Legislative Council consider expanding the building by adding four floors to the current site and ten floors to the triangular outdoor garden of the building. The expansion project will begin in July 2022. The Legislative Council Complex of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is located on the Tamar site on Hong Kong Island. It is the first dedicated building of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, which started construction in 2008 and was completed and put into use in 2011. The comprehensive building includes the council building, office building, and adjacent recreational areas. (New Society)
