Some physical examination items include screening for autoantibodies such as anti nuclear antibodies and anti double stranded DNA antibodies, which can help detect lupus erythematosus in the early stage. In addition, if immediate family members have lupus erythematosus, it is recommended to seek medical screening proactively. The symptoms of lupus erythematosus are diverse and relatively insidious, which can easily be confused with other diseases. The butterfly shaped rash on the face is one of the typical signs of lupus erythematosus, also known as "butterfly spots", which usually appear on the cheeks and nose bridge, resembling the wings of a butterfly.
