From the perspective of "big data" in travel, the new holiday consumption of "cross-border linkage"

4.268 million people! On May 1st, the daily passenger volume of the Yangtze River Delta Railway reached a new historical high, less than a month after the previous "daily peak" (April 4th). There are many options for long-distance travel across provinces during the May Day holiday, among which the demand for travel within 1500 kilometers has been further released. On May 1st, the railway departments in the Yangtze River Delta region, based on the use of peak hour operation maps, have added transportation capacity to popular tourist cities such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Hefei, Yangzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Ningbo, and Wenzhou, as well as medium and long-distance routes such as Beijing, Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Nanchang, and Changsha. On that day, 469 passenger trains were added and 424 high-speed trains were organized to operate in multiple units, meeting the needs of passengers. From the "big data" of travel, it can be seen that the holiday economy is constantly heating up. Upon closer analysis of the characteristic tourism products behind these data, it can be found that cross-border linkage marketing has contributed to stimulating consumer enthusiasm. Many cities engage in coordinated marketing with railway departments to attract tourists who come and go. For example, during the May Day holiday in Wujiang, Suzhou, high-speed rail tickets that arrive at the Wujiang high-speed rail station within 7 days can enjoy discounts on tickets, shopping, accommodation, and food in Lili Ancient Town, ushering in a wave of tourism boom. During the May Day holiday, Lili Ancient Town is expected to receive 84900 visitors, with an expected year-on-year increase of 5.2%. From May 1st to 4th, some homestays were fully booked, with an average booking rate increasing by 28.6% year-on-year. In addition to tourist attractions, there are also cruise ships linked to railways. With the rise of the cruise economy, there is a continuous stream of tourists taking high-speed trains to Shanghai for sea vacations, and foreign tourists who arrive in Shanghai by cruise also take high-speed trains to experience the unique charm of China. On April 30th, at the press conference of the Shanghai Cruise Culture and Tourism Festival, Baoshan launched the "Cruise+High Speed Rail" Port City Interconnection Project, planning to further activate the tourism resources of the Yangtze River Delta region, using high-speed rail as a key link to build a widely covered four hour high-speed rail circle, and achieve seamless connection with the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Port. The creative idea of cultural tourism "holding hands" with transportation will also bring museums to the sky. On April 30th, Shanghai Museum and China Eastern Airlines Group Co., Ltd. jointly released the wide body painted airplane "Shangbo" with ancient Chinese art as the theme, adding a new experience of "aerial museum" to holiday travelers. The luggage rack, small table board, seat headrests, and other positions inside the cabin of the "Shangbo" vessel are carefully selected to present more than 30 patterns of Shangbo's collection of bronze ware, accompanied by cultural relic descriptions and characteristic decorations, making passengers feel as if they are in a special exhibition of ancient Chinese bronze art in the air. Better creativity and better service can lead to more popular consumption. On May 2nd, the 2025 International Consumer Season and the 6th Shanghai "55 Shopping Festival" were launched, and Shanghai Pudong Airport, as the "air port", strives to create the "first stop" for exciting consumption in Shanghai. As a link between airlines and merchants, airports link airport consumption with in-flight Wi Fi usage vouchers, upgrade vouchers, VIP lounge experience vouchers, cultural and creative gifts, etc., achieving mutual driving of airport consumption and enriching passengers' experiences.
