Statistics show that by the end of 2024, China has built nearly 600000 acres of grass seed breeding bases, with an annual output of nearly 25000 tons of excellent local grass seeds, effectively supporting the grass seed demand of key ecological projects such as the "Three North". At present, China's grass seed industry is in its infancy, and the dependence of various types of grass seeds on foreign countries is still high, especially the supply of excellent local grass seeds urgently needed for ecological restoration is still insufficient. ”Zhao Bing, a second level inspector of the State owned Forest Farms and Seed Management Department of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, stated that in the next step, the forestry and grassland departments will increase efforts to protect and utilize grass germplasm resources, carry out the collection, preservation, identification and evaluation of important local grass germplasm resources, excavate a batch of excellent germplasm, and provide resource guarantees for the breeding of excellent grass varieties.
