The original ethnic opera "March of the Volunteers" jointly produced by Shanghai Opera House and Xuhui District Cultural and Tourism Bureau of Shanghai was performed at the West Bund Grand Theatre on the evening of the 27th. This is the first performance of the drama in 2025, which will run for three consecutive shows until April 29th. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the production of the "March of the Volunteers" at the Bai Dai Xiao Lou in Shanghai. The original national opera "March of the Volunteers" tells the story of the birth of the national anthem through singing, and will premiere in 2023. The production team has visited red landmarks such as the memorial hall (Bai Dai Xiao Lou) where the "March of the Volunteers" was recorded multiple times, carefully understanding the life stories of historical figures and incorporating them into their stage performances. The original ethnic opera "March of the Volunteers" in the Shanghai West Bund Grand Theater version has been carefully polished by the creative team, with a shortened duration from over two hours to around 110 minutes, a more compact rhythm, and a more tense plot. The director of the drama, Liao Xianghong, stated that the creative team also optimized the stage setting, allowing the opera to be performed not only on large stages such as the West Bund Grand Theater in Shanghai, but also in "versions" such as the Central Theater, Small Theater, Concert Hall, and even pop-up theaters, staged in different performance spaces to meet the appreciation needs and habits of various audience groups.
