Focusing on 'certainty', this press conference of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade conveys confidence and strength
2025-04-29
Since the beginning of this year, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade has organized 184 delegations of Chinese entrepreneurs to visit and exchange ideas in 45 countries and regions; In the first quarter, the total number of certificates issued by the national trade promotion system, including certificates of origin, ATA Carnets, and commercial certificates, increased by 14.91% year-on-year; As of now, the China Pavilion at the Osaka World Expo in Japan has received nearly 90000 visitors, making it one of the most popular pavilions at this year's Expo... On the 28th, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade held a regular press conference, and spokesperson Zhao Ping used the latest data to demonstrate how China can use its own "certainty" to hedge against the world's "uncertainty" and bring more confidence and strength to the world. The Global Economic and Trade Friction Index for February 2025, released by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade on the same day, showed that from a comprehensive index perspective, the global economic and trade friction index for February was 106, which was at a high level. From the perspective of country indices, among the 20 countries (regions) monitored, the United States, the European Union, and South Africa rank among the top three in terms of global economic and trade friction index. Zhao Ping stated that the United States has become the biggest variable disturbing the global economic and trade friction index. The global economic and trade friction measures implemented by the United States involve the largest amount of money, ranking first for 8 consecutive months; The number of unilateral restrictive measures such as tariffs, controls, and sanctions has been the highest for two consecutive months; The China Economic and Trade Friction Index has also consistently ranked first. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of US and Canadian tariffs on foreign trade enterprises and provide targeted trade promotion services, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade recently conducted a questionnaire survey for more than 1100 foreign trade enterprises nationwide. Research shows that nearly 50% of companies have stated that they will reduce their business to the United States, while 75.3% of companies plan to expand into emerging markets to compensate for the reduced share of exports to the United States. The interviewed companies generally expressed that the frequent changes in tariff policies have greatly increased uncertainty, making it difficult for them to make long-term plans, but there are always more solutions than difficulties. With the support of a package of stable foreign trade policies from the government, a large number of foreign trade enterprises are opening up incremental markets, expanding domestic sales markets, and enhancing supply chain resilience through linkage. They are assessing the situation, actively taking action, and making every effort to overcome current challenges. Trade and investment promotion is the foundation of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). Zhao Ping stated that she will fully leverage her unique functions of "connecting government and enterprises, integrating internal and external resources, and facilitating supply and demand", and make every effort to provide the maximum assistance to foreign trade enterprises within her capabilities. Specifically, there will be further simplification of the processing of commercial certifications such as certificates of origin, and acceleration of the approval process for enterprises to participate in exhibitions abroad; Continue to help enterprises find good friends and partners for mutually beneficial cooperation through exciting exhibitions and rich supporting activities at the 3rd China International Supply Chain Promotion Expo; Organize a series of important economic and trade activities, such as the SCO Business Forum, the 2025 Global Trade and Investment Promotion Summit, the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Development Business Conference, and the Global Business Rule of Law Conference, to provide promotion services for enterprises to conduct trade and investment in neighboring countries and globally. Recently, Huang Renxun, President and CEO of Nvidia in the United States, Bernard DeWitt, Chairman of the China Economic and Trade Commission in Belgium, and Dai Mingkai, a member of the board of directors of Daimler Trucks in Germany, have visited China successively, receiving high attention from both domestic and foreign sources. Regarding this, Zhao Ping stated that on the one hand, China's attitude is clear. The door to China's opening-up has always been open to all foreign-funded enterprises, including American companies, and China's policy of utilizing foreign investment has not changed and will not change. On the other hand, the attitude of global business enterprises is also clear. On April 24th, the second meeting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC) 2025 was held in Toronto, Canada. At the meeting, the Asia Pacific business community, including the US business community, unanimously called for opposition to unilateralism and protectionism. Enterprises must operate and develop according to economic laws, and there is no exception for enterprises in any country. The implementation of decoupling, disconnection, and tariff barriers, as well as the politicization and pan securitization of economic and trade issues, is unpopular in the global business community. Currently, China's certainty is a significant advantage in an uncertain world. ”Zhao Ping said that China's policy environment is transparent, stable, and predictable, with huge potential in the consumer market. It has the world's most complete industrial system and supporting capabilities, as well as a large number of high-quality talents. In the future, we are willing to continue to serve as a bridge for communication and exchange between China, the United States, and the global business community, and jointly voice the global business community's firm commitment to upholding the multilateral trading system, opposing indiscriminate tariffs, and resisting unilateralism. We also hope that the US will comply with the common expectations of China, the United States, and the world, stop using tariffs as a weapon to exert extreme pressure, resolve their respective concerns through equal dialogue and consultation, and jointly promote the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China US economic and trade relations. ”Zhao Ping said.
