Do you know that in Huairou, the capital of cinema, statues of filmmakers can be seen everywhere. As the head of the 8K Ultra HD Video Technology Laboratory at the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education, I often walk through the streets full of movie atmosphere, feeling like a dream chaser, paddling vigorously in the vast ocean of animated movies. Animated movies have a unique charm, like a magical key that opens the door for audiences to enter a fantasy world. It expands the boundaries of film art, making abstract concepts vivid and interesting, while finding a perfect balance between camera language and narrative framework, becoming an indispensable force in the film industry. In practice, I always feel that the agility of ink painting and the precision of numbers are separated by a big mountain. Ordinary animation cannot fully showcase the essence of ink painting. I think we need to use some new methods. So, I led my team into the research of 8K technology. We want to use it to extract the beauty of ink animation. This is how 'Autumn Harvest' was born, it is the world's first 8K ink wash animation work. This artistic pursuit is an innovative adventure with enormous challenges. At that time, the creative cycle was as tight as a stretched string, and team members were all in the company, eating and living. Every day when they opened their eyes, they were learning and practicing. To ensure the clarity of the animation, one leg of the grasshopper needs to be drawn to over two meters, and the body and wings need to be proportionally enlarged. We have been changing the texture of grasshopper wings for almost a month now. Over the course of more than twenty months, day and night, we were like a group of persistent craftsmen, repeatedly trying various technological methods and undergoing hundreds of revisions, ultimately completing this animated short film that was only four minutes and thirty seconds long. Autumn Fruits did not disappoint us. It was not only a successful candidate for the Berlin International Film Festival, but also nominated for the Best Fine Arts Film at the Houston International Film Festival Platinum Award and the Chinese Film Golden Rooster Award Award. This is a crucial step taken by our entire experimental team in revitalizing the practice of the new school of Chinese animation, and also fills the gap in international 8K ink animation technology standards. I also teach the theory and practice of 8K ink animation technology to my younger students, and participate in project development with them, hoping to sow the seeds of innovation in their hearts. Nowadays, the Chinese Film Capital has become the "golden calling card" of Huairou. The Animation Academy Award has also landed at the Huairou Campus of Beijing Film Academy. More and more animation talents are starting from here, and more industrial resources are gathering here. We will also continue to strive in the innovative expression of traditional culture and the revitalization of the new school of Chinese animation, using animation language to tell the stories of Beijing and China well.
