The reporter recently learned from the Cyberspace Administration of China that since the beginning of this year, the cyberspace administration has continued to strengthen the protection of minors' networks. Based on daily management and reports from netizens, they have been continuously cleaning up illegal and harmful information posted using the image of minors, and have dealt with multiple batches of illegal accounts strictly. It is reported that such violations ignore the physical and mental development characteristics of minors, go against the subjective wishes of children, and transform childlike innocence into a tool for traffic monetization, which has a negative impact on minors. Typical problems include: spoof of children, attracting attention, false posing, creating controversy, inappropriate words and actions, distorting direction, illegally attracting traffic, and evading punishment. The cyberspace administration department has consolidated the main responsibility of the platform, guided the platform to increase the investigation and crackdown on illegal clues, strictly reviewed the content of information related to minors, and taken measures such as banning, revoking profit-making permissions, and closing more than 11000 illegal accounts. The cyberspace administration department pointed out that in recent work, new signs of issues involving minors have been discovered. Some accounts have used methods such as dressing up as underage children, adding "student" tags, and locating school addresses to post inappropriate content under the guise of minors, attempting to confuse the public and seek benefits, and taking advantage of the situation to commit illegal and criminal acts in hidden links. In this regard, the cyberspace administration will guide platforms to take strict measures against relevant illegal content and accounts in accordance with the principle of being most beneficial to minors, and cooperate with public security organs to strengthen the crackdown on illegal and criminal activities. The Cyberspace Administration reminds that the underage mode is a convenient technical tool for guiding minors to use the internet safely and reasonably. While fully ensuring the security of minors' personal information, it protects minors from harmful information intrusion through multiple functions such as one click activation, duration management, and exclusive content. However, fully leveraging the protective role of the mode cannot be achieved without the joint efforts of all parties. We hope that parents and underage users will actively activate the underage mode to ensure maximum safety when accessing the internet. (New Society)
