Enable the public to conveniently purchase high-quality and affordable medicines
2025-04-18
Open up ideas, actively innovate, and provide more space for the public to buy cheap and effective drugs. In Zhoushan, Zhejiang, there is a popular counter in recent years, which is the "low-priced drug counter" with a unit price of less than 5 yuan and less than 20 yuan. At the local pharmacy, various high-quality and inexpensive drugs such as 1.5 yuan ciprofloxacin hydrochloride capsules, 2.8 yuan erythromycin capsules, and 3 yuan aspirin enteric coated tablets are not placed in the invisible corners, but in prominent locations with signs. Local authorities also require doctors in primary healthcare institutions to prioritize recommending low-priced and effective products to the public when prescribing medication. At present, Zhoushan has not only achieved full coverage of "low-priced drug counters" in retail pharmacies through guiding pharmacies and smooth procurement mechanisms, but also ensured stable supply of drugs. High quality and affordable drugs have become standard equipment in pharmacies, which is pleasing and inspiring. For some time now, the withdrawal of some commonly used high-quality and inexpensive drugs from the market has raised concerns. The practice in Zhoushan and some places has proven that opening up ideas, actively innovating, and providing people with ways and space to buy cheap and effective drugs. Of course, from a larger scope and longer period of time, ensuring the uninterrupted supply of high-quality and affordable drugs still faces many challenges. It is not easy to achieve the competitive principle of low profit and high sales volume for high-quality and inexpensive drugs. If drug prices are adjusted solely by the invisible hand of the market, maximizing profits will become an overwhelming consideration, and it is often difficult to achieve both high quality and low price simultaneously. Guided by tangible hands, we aim to streamline the chain from drug approval, raw material production to distribution and sales, and focus on reducing costs and increasing efficiency in all aspects. This ensures that pharmaceutical companies and pharmacies have a certain profit margin, while also gaining a good reputation, in order to ensure a more secure long-term supply of high-quality and affordable drugs. Improving the "meeting rate" of high-quality and affordable drugs in the market is equivalent to carrying out high-quality development in a lower price range, which is like carrying out fine decoration in a small apartment. The narrower the space, the more important it is to focus on every aspect to achieve the goal of system optimization. On the production side, more policy additions should be made to enhance the production enthusiasm of pharmaceutical companies. At present, China has established a number of shortage medicine production bases to ensure basic supply. On this basis, we should fully leverage the positive effects of tax incentives, land rent reductions, and other measures, and also make good use of policies such as large-scale equipment updates to help enterprises accelerate equipment and technology upgrades, and enhance the production capacity of high-quality and affordable drugs. At the distribution end, more subtraction should be done to minimize intermediate links and prevent information asymmetry, so that drugs can reach consumers at a lower cost. Currently, some companies have begun exploring the model of direct drug delivery to pharmacies and hospitals. Not long ago, Chengdu, Sichuan held an industry supply and demand docking event, where pharmaceutical production companies and drug sales companies had face-to-face negotiations and signed contracts on site, making communication between upstream and downstream of the industry chain more comprehensive and effective, and reducing the "middlemen earning price differences". There are a large number of pharmacies and medical institutions in our country, and the medication situation is complex and varied, sometimes leading to local drug shortages. To solve this problem, we must adhere to both market monitoring and drug reserves. On the one hand, it is necessary to accelerate the establishment of shortage drug reserves at the prefecture level cities or counties, and timely prepare for the allocation of cheap drugs with unstable supply; On the other hand, it is advisable to apply technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence to dynamically monitor the supply of low-cost drugs in pharmacies and medical institutions, in order to ensure effective supply through precise management. Being able to conveniently purchase high-quality and affordable drugs is the fervent expectation of patients and an important aspect of reflecting the level of medical security. Currently, China's pharmaceutical industry is developing rapidly and its ability for independent innovation is constantly increasing. Give full play to the decisive role of the market in resource allocation, better leverage the role of the government, and continuously introduce more high-quality and affordable drugs and services, which will surely better meet the needs of the masses and help ensure their health.
