The mandatory national standard "Safety Requirements for Power Batteries for Electric Vehicles" (GB38031-2025) organized and formulated by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology was recently released and will be implemented from July 1, 2026. It is understood that this revision further clarifies the temperature requirements, power on/off status, observation time, and vehicle testing conditions of the battery to be tested. The technical requirements have been adjusted from providing heat event alarm signals 5 minutes before fire or explosion to not causing fire or explosion (still requiring alarm), and ensuring that smoke does not cause harm to passengers; Add bottom impact test to test the protective ability of the battery bottom after being impacted; After adding a fast charging cycle, a safety test will be conducted. An external short circuit test will be conducted after 300 fast charging cycles, with the requirement of no fire or explosion. In addition, the revised version clarifies that this standard applies to power batteries used in electric vehicles, and non drive batteries are not applicable; Improve insulation resistance requirements and increase insulation resistance requirements for AC circuit battery systems; Improve the requirements for extrusion testing and add insulation resistance related judgment conditions.
