To encourage students from disadvantaged groups and low-income families to participate in sports activities, Hong Kong has recently launched the "Sports Voucher Subsidy Scheme" to subsidize students to choose sports projects independently and cultivate their interest in sports. The program is launched by the Hong Kong Onion Full Person Education Foundation. In the first phase, 1000 spots will be provided, and each beneficiary will receive an electronic sports voucher worth HKD 1000 (approximately RMB 0.94 per HKD). Using the sports voucher, users can choose their own sports projects, teaching institutions, sports time and location on the application. The second phase will increase the number of spots to 2000, and the funding amount will be raised to HKD 2500 per person. The program will begin accepting applications in May. It is reported that the plan will be carried out in three stages: the first stage focuses on cultivating students' interest in sports, allowing them to participate in multiple emerging sports such as cricket and non collision rugby; In the second stage, professional guidance will be provided for students' potential, and professional sports exchanges will be arranged to enhance their sports skills; In the third stage, potential athlete representatives will be arranged to participate in domestic or international competitions. Liang Yuwei, Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Youth Development Committee, stated at the event launch ceremony that the program provides resources and opportunities for disadvantaged youth to enjoy sports and unleash their potential. We hope that all sectors of society can work together to promote the comprehensive development of sports in Hong Kong. Li Jiesi, the founding president of the Congdong Whole Person Education Foundation, stated that the program collaborates with multiple sports organizations, including the Hong Kong Emerging Sports Association. In addition to providing opportunities for young people to learn sports, it also hopes to promote sports consumption in Hong Kong and explore more sports elite talents. (New Society)
