In recent years, with the development of technology, smart home products such as smart door locks and video doorbells have gradually become popular, and more and more families are choosing to purchase products such as video doorbells. And most video doorbells include components such as doorbell buttons, cameras, and indoor screens. When someone rings the doorbell, the camera will automatically take a photo or video of the door outside and display it on the indoor screen. It can perform two-way voice calls and remote unlocking operations, and some cameras on visual doorbells can work 24/7 to capture image data at any time. Whether based on the Civil Code or the general public's knowledge and common sense, the relevant situations in residential areas and the personal activities of natural persons belong to the category of privacy. If the camera of the video doorbell is facing the neighbor's house and residence, even if it is installed on one's own house, it is suspected of infringing on the privacy rights of others. Imagine that no matter who you are, when you go home, when you go out, what items you carry, and other activities, they are all captured and recorded clearly by cameras controlled by others, and anyone will be worried and scared. Although the video doorbell is small, it is related to neighborhood relations and even more importantly, to the privacy of others. The use of smart devices such as video doorbells by people is not illegal in itself. If it is not a "door to door" layout of a house or residence, installing a video doorbell and not filming the public area, but only filming the private area in front of one's own house, it may not constitute infringement. But when the video doorbell can capture the private space of others' activities or expand the shooting range to the public domain, it faces the risk of infringement. If you want to install a video doorbell, you should also pay attention to protecting the privacy rights of others, choose a reasonable method and location, and adjust the range of recorded videos by adjusting the position, installing barriers, etc., to control the recording field of view at your own doorstep, avoid recording the behavior and activities of others, and reduce the adverse impact on others.
