According to foreign media reports, the Canadian military hopes to collaborate with industry to invest over billions of dollars in the procurement of new military helicopters, filling the gap in firepower, maneuverability, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and other capabilities of existing helicopters. The new helicopter is expected to have initial operational capability by 2033, which will significantly enhance the country's land, sea, and air force combat capabilities. A senior official of the Canadian Air Force stated that Canada's current fleet of 82 CH-146 helicopters is expected to be in service until the 2030s. Canada is seeking a new type of helicopter to replace the CH-146 helicopter for joint operations with the US military and to support its military operations in Latvia. Regarding the possible helicopter models that Canada may purchase, external analysis suggests that Sikorsky's UH-60 helicopter is widely used among US allies and has a complete production line, which may be one of the candidate models. In addition, UH-1Y and V-280 helicopters produced by Bell Corporation in the United States are also alternative models. The company currently assembles commercial helicopters in Quebec, Canada and has approximately 1300 local Canadian employees. (New Society)
