The reporter recently learned from the Bureau of Cultural Relics of the Xizang Autonomous Region that a series of archaeological investigations, excavations and research achievements in Xizang in recent years have shown that the time-space framework of archaeological culture on the Xizang Plateau has been initially constructed, and breakthroughs have been made in establishing a complete information system for Tibetan archaeological resources. The Institute for the Protection of Cultural Relics of the Xizang Autonomous Region held the 2024 Xizang Archaeological Work Report Meeting on the 9th, and announced the achievements of Xizang's archaeological work from 2021 to 2024. In recent years, Xizang's archaeology, under the overall planning of the National Cutural Heritage Administration, has made great efforts to increase regional archaeological efforts and build a regional cultural development sequence, led by the major project of "Archaeological China". Comprehensive archaeological work has been carried out on such major topics as "the origin and migration of early human beings in the Tibetan Plateau", "the types of neolithic archaeological communities in Xizang", "the archaeological cultural framework of early metal age in Xizang and the origin of early complex society", "archaeological investigation and research on Tibetan remains". Li Linhui, director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Relics of the Xizang Autonomous Region, said that since 2021, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Relics of the Xizang Autonomous Region has cooperated with 12 scientific research institutions in China to carry out 34 active archaeological excavations, involving 17 ancient sites and tombs. The archaeological work covers 7 cities in Xizang, covering the Paleolithic Age, Neolithic Age, Early Metal Age and Tubo Period. Li Linhui said, "Through a series of excavation and research, Xizang's archaeology has achieved a major leap forward, and has initially constructed the evolution context of Xizang's archaeological culture and the time-space framework of the archaeological culture of the Tibetan Plateau. A large number of archaeological achievements reveal that human beings set foot in the hinterland of the Tibetan Plateau 100000 years ago, and the archaeological culture of different stages was bred and developed in Xizang. The frontier archaeological achievements vividly demonstrate the historical fact that Xizang is an important part of the pluralistic and integrated pattern of the Chinese nation." (News Agency)
