Highlighting aesthetic connotations cannot rely solely on showing off skills

A three minute short video can enable intangible cultural heritage techniques to reach billions of viewers in a very short period of time; A short AIGC drama that can tell an ancient mythological story well without the need for real actors; A highly technological animated film, like "Ne Zha: The Demonic Children Roar in the Sea," can bring innovative development to China's excellent traditional culture in the digital age, allowing Chinese stories to go global and become popular worldwide. This is the power of media art. It no longer relies solely on oral, written, and printed forms of communication like traditional art, but can ride on the "east wind" of technology, crossing the distance between time and space, blurring the boundaries between imagination and reality, and breaking through the barriers of language and culture. In recent years, with the help of various new technological means, media art has become increasingly popular, daily oriented, personalized, and intelligent. All media available and accessible through network technology can facilitate the dissemination and exchange of art. People can watch online movies on the sofa, watch short dramas on the subway, and engage in art appreciation activities anytime, anywhere. Not only appreciation, but also with the help of big models such as DeepSeek and DreamAI, the threshold for artistic creation has been greatly reduced, and everyone can achieve their dreams of being a painter or a director with the help of AI. Undoubtedly, the performance of art works in the era of media art in terms of dissemination and influence has far exceeded the heights that could be achieved in the traditional art era, opening up unprecedented new scenarios and possibilities for the development of art. However, at the same time, the explosive growth of various emerging media art forms has also exposed hidden concerns such as technological abuse, value imbalance, and disorderly management. For example, some bloggers have recently used AI technology to "explode" classic works such as "Dream of the Red Chamber" and "Journey to the West", creating short videos that completely subvert the original content and theme, weakening the artistic value of the original works; Some micro drama platforms, in pursuit of traffic dividends, use a large number of vulgar and sensational works to "flood the screen", ignoring the artistic attributes of the works and purely using them as tools for commercial profit. In addition, there have been multiple copyright disputes over AI generated works in the fields of music, painting, and other arts. The root cause of various chaos, objectively speaking, is that the speed of technological evolution and updates far exceeds the speed of people's adaptation and response, leading to lagging thinking and management; But subjectively speaking, it is also because some practitioners blindly pursue commercial "monetization" and neglect the intrinsic value of media art as art. The integration of technology and art is an important characteristic of the development of media art, and no one can go against it. However, when the possibilities of technological implementation are ubiquitous and all encompassing, we must consider how to balance the identity relationships between different content producers in art works, and weigh the priority order of different interests and value orientations. After all, all empowerment and integration are ultimately aimed at pushing media art to a higher artistic realm, meeting the growing spiritual and cultural needs of the people with more and better quality art works, rather than sacrificing the artistic value of works indefinitely for commercial benefits. Works that deviate from mainstream values and lack ideological connotations, no matter how high the technical means and the flow are, can only become an empty shell of "showing off skills" and cannot gain aesthetic resonance. How to calm down from the blind worship of technology and the fanatical pursuit of commercial interests, achieve a rational return to artistic value, and reshape a healthy and orderly new order of media art is an urgent topic that needs to be considered at present. We need to correctly understand and position the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of different media art forms, choose their strengths and discard their weaknesses, do a good job in regulating the content of bad tendencies such as vulgarity and novelty hunting, and seek balance in the three-dimensional coordinates of technology, art and culture. In terms of regulation, the policy norms of the competent authorities have been continuously established and improved. Taking micro dramas as an example, the State Administration of Radio and Television issued a notice in February this year on further coordinating development and promoting the healthy and prosperous development of the online micro drama industry, emphasizing the need to deeply grasp the ideological attributes of micro dramas and focus on enhancing cultural and aesthetic connotations. It is reported that the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television is still planning to introduce the "Management Measures for Short Films" to continue promoting the high-quality and standardized development of the short film industry. We hope that such management measures can also be improved in other emerging media art fields as soon as possible, jointly regulating the development order of media art. But regulation can solve more of the "lower limit" problem. The upper limit of media art still depends on the continuous efforts of the market, platforms, and creators. On the one hand, we need to continue to attach importance to the two-way empowerment of technological means and traditional culture, so that more imaginative artistic imagination can be realized into beautiful works of art, and media art can become an important carrier for telling the story of China well; On the other hand, while maintaining artistic innovation and market vitality, efforts should be made to enhance the spiritual height, cultural connotation, and artistic value of works, pursue higher levels of aesthetics, and climb new peaks of Chinese culture. Media art is an art form widely participated, created, and disseminated by the general public. Everyone is the subject of artistic exchange and should also make efforts to build a healthy, prosperous, and sustainable media art ecosystem. When more and more people can carry a sense of responsibility and mission, skillfully use various emerging technological means for artistic creation and dissemination, technology can truly become an inexhaustible driving force for artistic innovation. In short, the new order of media art is essentially a harmonious symphony of technological rationality and humanistic spirit. Only by allowing the profound heritage of traditional art and the surging momentum of emerging technologies to interact with each other, and by building a virtuous ecology with commercial logic and artistic value, can we achieve the artistic vision of "letting a hundred flowers bloom".
