The Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced on the 7th that the "Chinese Culture Festival 2025" will be held from June to September, featuring over 280 performing arts programs, a series of extended activities, film screenings, exhibitions, and more. The opening program of this year's "Chinese Culture Festival" is the modern dance poetry drama "Poetry Remembers Dongpo" produced by China Oriental Performing Arts Group. The drama integrates various traditional Chinese cultural elements such as poetry, Chinese painting, calligraphy, seal carving, and guqin into modern dance. The "Chinese Opera Festival" is an important part of the "Chinese Culture Festival". This year, six high-level programs will be selected, covering Beijing Opera, Yuediao and Qin Opera Opera. The opening program of the Chinese Opera Festival is the new historical play "Returning to the Song Dynasty with Earth" by the National Peking Opera Theatre of China. Continuing literary and artistic themed programs include the Shanghai Song and Dance Troupe's dance drama "Li Qingzhao" and the Jiangsu Grand Theatre's original ethnic dance drama "Dream of the Red Chamber". These two programs are both part of the "National Style and Charm Fragrant River" series of programs. This year's "Chinese Culture Festival" has specially launched the "Tea Culture" series. The prelude program of the cultural festival, the "Tan Dun WE Music Festival" led by Hong Kong's "Cultural Promotion Ambassador" and composer and conductor Tan Dun as artistic director, includes not only the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra's "Tea Soul" opera concert, but also a dialogue between traditional and modern percussion music, Dunhuang ancient music and dance. Xi'an is the focus city of this "Chinese Culture Festival". The cultural festival brought the representative drama "Qin Opera Opera" of Xi'an to Hong Kong, and the outstanding actors of the Qin Opera Youth Experimental Theater of Xi'an Performing Arts Group performed the classic famous drama "Zhou Ren Returns to the House". To encourage Hong Kong teachers and students to deepen their understanding of Chinese culture and art through participating in cultural festival activities, this year's special session on promoting Chinese culture and art will cover different art forms such as dance, opera, drama, music, and film, and will also feature a "Campus Opera Tour" to enhance students' participation and interest in Chinese culture. The "Chinese Culture Festival" is presented by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Special Administrative Region Government and planned by the Office for the Promotion of Chinese Culture under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Special Administrative Region Government. Its aim is to promote Chinese culture, enhance citizens' national identity and cultural confidence, and attract and gather top artists and art groups from mainland China and the world to come to Hong Kong for exchange.
