The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, and the Minister of Water Resources, Li Kwok ying, met at Government House on the 1st to witness the signing of the "Cooperation Agreement on Water Affairs Management and Cooperation" between the Ministry of Water Resources and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. The Director of the Development Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Ning Hanhao, and the Director of the Office of the Ministry of Water Resources, Tang Liang, respectively signed cooperation agreements on behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Ministry of Water Resources. The cooperation agreement will strengthen the governance and protection of the the Pearl River Estuary and the boundary rivers between Guangdong and Hong Kong, and promote cooperation in disaster prevention and mitigation, water supply security, planning and project construction management, information sharing, talent training, water conservancy technology and other fields. Li Jiachao thanks the Ministry of Water Resources for its full support to Hong Kong's work in water supply and flood prevention. He said that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the supply of Dongjiang water to Hong Kong, and the signing of a cooperation agreement between the SAR government and the Ministry of Water Resources at this milestone to strengthen cooperation is of great significance. In the future, the SAR Government will continue to work with the Ministry of Water Resources to ensure the safety of water supply to Hong Kong, the safety of flood control at the the Pearl River Estuary and the boundary river between Guangdong and Hong Kong, and provide water conservancy support and guarantee for the high-quality development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, based on the principle of saving water resources and improving utilization efficiency. Li Guoying stated that establishing a fixed exchange and cooperation mechanism is a new milestone in the cooperation between mainland China and Hong Kong on water related affairs. The Ministry of Water Resources will comprehensively strengthen water conservancy cooperation with the Hong Kong SAR government, continuously improve the water security guarantee system in the Greater Bay Area, and provide more solid water security guarantees for the high-quality development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.
