The Jizhou Kiln located in Ji'an, Jiangxi is one of the most well preserved ancient kiln ruins discovered in the world. It was first burned in the late Tang Dynasty and flourished during the Song and Yuan Dynasties, with a history of over a thousand years. Today we will take you into Jizhou Kiln to experience the vibrant inheritance and renewal of millennium old porcelain craftsmanship. Jizhou Kiln is located in Yonghe Town, Ji'an, in the middle reaches of the Gan River in Jiangxi Province. It preserves 24 kiln packages from the late Tang Dynasty to the Song and Yuan Dynasties. As the temperature warms up, the staff of Jizhou Kiln Ancient Ceramics Research Institute started firing the first kiln of the Year of the Snake, inheriting traditional porcelain making techniques with new porcelain works. During the Song and Yuan Dynasties, Jizhou Kiln was famous before Jingdezhen. It was the most innovative comprehensive folk kiln at that time. It created a unique craft with black glaze as the main decoration and wood leaf patterns, Paper Cuttings decals, etc. After the Jizhou kiln ceased firing in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, it experienced a long period of silence. In the 1980s, archaeological excavations unearthed a large number of specimens, providing a scientific basis for studying and restoring the ceramic firing techniques of Jizhou kiln. After more than 30 years of scientific research and development, the lost firing technique of Jizhou kiln has been fully restored. The Jizhou kiln embodies the wisdom of generations of skilled craftsmen. In 2014, the ceramic firing technique of Jizhou kiln was selected as a national intangible cultural heritage. Nowadays, more and more young people are settling in Jizhou Kiln to enhance the vitality of ancient skills through innovative practices. Experience activities such as ceramic production and VR archaeology allow participants to experience the ancient charm through interaction. (New Society)
