The intelligent variable frequency ultrasonic radar bird repelling robot developed by the Agricultural Defender Innovation Team of Chongqing Vocational College of Commerce can accurately drive away "grain thieves" and avoid harming beneficial birds. Recently, it passed the acceptance test at the experimental base of Qiandongnan Agricultural Science Academy in Guizhou Province, providing a green and intelligent solution for agricultural bird pest control. In the past, catching birds relied on beating gongs, but now robots are on duty, reducing vineyard losses by 70% Yu Binqing, a staff member of the Qiandongnan Agricultural Science Institute, pointed to the flexible rotating white equipment in the experimental field and praised it repeatedly. Traditional bird repelling methods have low efficiency and high cost, and chemical bird repelling agents may also pollute the environment, excessively repelling beneficial birds and even leading to pest and pesticide abuse. In response to this pain point, the team has "transplanted" the ultrasonic radar technology of smart cars to farmland and developed a bird repelling robot that can emit variable frequency ultrasonic waves. This device achieves blind spot coverage through a 360 ° rotating radar, with an effective detection radius of 15 meters. A single unit can protect 706 square meters of farmland, and the bird repelling efficiency is three times higher than manual labor. From February to March this year, the team conducted 200 hours of on-site verification at grape and rapeseed bases of the Qiandongnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Through observation, the robot has produced a dispersal effect on more than 30 common bird species invading the base, triggering a dispersal response in only 0.3 seconds. The project leader Yang Hao revealed that during the research and development process, teachers and students 3D printed 12 versions of waterproof shells, ultimately controlling the cost to one-third of similar products on the market, "making technological achievements affordable and long-lasting is the real way to land". It is reported that the school promotes the integration of education and industry through "course integration with fields", and directly integrates courses such as "unmanned vehicle debugging" and "UG 3D design" into the development of bird repellent robots, allowing students to "learn design in the workshop and code in the fields". In the future, the team will collaborate with agricultural enterprises to develop a solar powered version and establish a "Smart Agriculture Innovation Center" to cultivate more "technological new farmers" for rural revitalization.
