The inspiration brought by "seeking heat in the cold"

2025-03-14

The just-ended snow season saw Zhejiang, a province that usually sees little snow, become a hotbed for ice and snow sports. ski resorts were full of tourists and many of the custom-made hockey sticks used by athletes at the Asian Winter Games were made in Zhejiang.

According a search engine, last year, netizens in Zhejiang were the fourth most interested in the term "skiing" in China. So, how did province that appears far from ice and snow find a new way to develop "cold economy"?

Seeking business opportunities from consumer demand and breaking through the development of the industry. Zhejiang rarely sees snow, but "the more, the more eager for ice and snow," so how to keep this consumption potential at home? Anji County in Huzhou makes use of the mountainous terrain using refrigeration and snow-making technology to build and improve the outdoor ski resorts such as Jiangnan Tianchi and Yunshang Prairie, and promote the whole-region tourism. After taking the high-speed train and driving for an hour, you can enjoy various pleasures such as skiing and visiting "vill cafes" on weekends. The ski resorts attract visitors from the Yangtze River Delta and even further regions to experience. Nearly 1,000 homest and 20 nearby villages have thus increased at least three months of peak business season. In recent years, the number of visitors to the two ski resorts has increased more than 20% annually, and another 460,000 square meters of new ski resorts are under construction. There is no absolute advantage disadvantage in developing the industry. By adapting measures to local conditions, being good at finding the market from demand, and innovating at the supply side, we can " something from nothing" and "innovate from something", and cultivate industries that meet the needs of the masses and are welcomed by the market
