To make a living, what really matters is determination, learning a skill, finding a suitable job, and achieving a goal, "said Zainab, a professional woman, to reporters in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8th, the journalist team interviewed several local professional women on the issue of Afghan women's work that is of concern to the international community, and experienced the working conditions of Afghan women employed in different fields. Currently, the Afghan interim government allows women to engage in related work within certain industries and institutions. Abdul Salam Javad Ahonzada, spokesperson for the Afghan Ministry of Industry and Commerce, told reporters that there are currently over 120000 women active in various fields such as agriculture, animal husbandry, healthcare, and services throughout Afghanistan. Zainab told reporters that her company initially only wove scarves and hats by hand, but has now developed into a design workshop specializing in traditional headwear and headscarves. Many of the workers here are women from poor families who earn stable income through their own labor. On February 16th, a salesperson from a clothing store in Kabul, Afghanistan, named Bahara Salimi, displayed the clothes sold in the store. Xinhua News Agency reported (photo by Sevrahman Safi) that a clothing store salesperson, Bahara Salimi, said, "We are building a design studio to create an environment that makes women feel happy and motivated, allowing them to freely choose clothing that suits their personal style." She said that the studio can also provide sustainable livelihood security for women who want to work from home. According to the Afghan Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, over 30000 Afghan women will obtain business licenses in 2024, highlighting the increasingly important role of female entrepreneurs in Afghanistan's post-war economic reconstruction. Maryam Asafi is a beauty therapist who has her own beauty clinic. In her opinion, beauty clinics are like "healing sanctuaries" because beauty services are not only about appearance, but also help customers find confidence. 19-year-old English teacher Ozala Wardak currently teaches 80 female students and 30 male students. My greatest satisfaction comes from seeing students full of confidence and realizing their dreams. In addition to teaching English, she actively helps students apply for opportunities to study abroad, providing them with comprehensive guidance from the application process to skill development. In order to reach more Afghan professional women, the journalist team visited the Ashkabad area in Chalikar city, Parwan province, which is a typical poverty-stricken area in central Afghanistan. Although it is only about 76 kilometers away from the capital Kabul, the road is muddy and bumpy. It took the reporter four hours to arrive at the destination - the Fazillah Workshop. In the workshop, female workers are engaged in tasks including embroidery, clothing production, sewing bags, and making home decorations. Founder Fazila told reporters that her handicraft workshop has developed rapidly since its establishment six months ago. The initial investment was 10000 Afghan Nais (approximately 138 US dollars), and now the investment has increased to nearly 500000 Afghan Nais. For young female worker Fatima Rahmani, learning and training in the workshop has completely changed her life. She said that she has been receiving internship training in the workshop for the past three months, hoping to achieve economic independence through her skills and take on family responsibilities with her father. Young women must learn to earn their own money and not rely on others. I am delighted to learn embroidery and handicraft skills here. "In face-to-face contact with Afghan professional women, the reporter felt that despite the challenges, they proved through their own efforts that as long as they have determination, resilience, and social support, they can completely create an independent and hopeful career path.
