US Navy's bid for carrier based stealth fighter jets, Lockheed Martin company kicked out

2025-03-10

According to insiders, the US Navy will exclude defense industry giant Lockheed Martin from bidding for the next generation of carrier based stealth fighter jets. The US Navy will adopt the design proposals of Boeing and Northrop Grumman, while excluding Lockheed Martin from the next generation fighter jet bidding project known as the F/A-XX. This new fighter jet will replace the "Super Hornet" carrier based fighter that has been in service since the 1990s. According to the report, Lockheed Martin asked Reuters reporters to inquire with the US Navy about the situation, but the US Navy did not respond to a request for comment. According to two sources familiar with the project, Loma did not meet the necessary standards to enter the next stage of bidding. The US Navy will award the contract to two other bidding companies. After evaluating their design proposals at the Pentagon, a contractor will be selected to produce this fighter jet, which is expected to enter service within the next decade. It is expected that the US Navy's F/A-XX fighter jets will possess advanced stealth performance, longer combat radius, and endurance, as well as the ability to collaborate with unmanned aerial vehicles and naval carrier based air defense systems. The report states that the number of fighter jets purchased, contract amount, and specific timeline for the project are still confidential, but based on previous similar projects (such as the F-35 fighter jet project), the total investment throughout the project cycle may reach tens of billions of dollars. At present, the US Navy still plans to purchase over 270 F-35C fighter jets for its aircraft carrier fleet. (New Society)
