In the first two months, the number of electric bicycles exchanged for new in China exceeded one million

The reporter learned from the Ministry of Commerce on March 3rd that the nationwide trade-in program for electric bicycles has been implemented steadily and orderly. From January to February this year, 1.019 million old electric bicycles were handed over for trade-in, and 1.019 million new electric bicycles were purchased through trade-in, driving new vehicle sales of 2.66 billion yuan. Since the implementation of the trade-in program for electric bicycles last year, a total of 2.4 million old electric bicycles have been handed over for trade-in, and 2.4 million new electric bicycles have been purchased through trade-in, driving new vehicle sales of approximately 6.4 billion yuan.

In January 2025, the Ministry of Commerce and four other departments jointly issued the "Notice on Doing a Good Job in the Trade-in of Electric Bicycles in 2025", specifying that the trade-in program would continue to be carried out starting from January 1st. From the perspective of the sales side, currently, more than 40,000 sales stores have participated in the trade-in program, and the vast majority of them are individual industrial and commercial households and small and micro enterprises, with further increased enthusiasm for market participation. In terms of the sales progress, the number of trade-in vehicles in February reached 863,000, exceeding the highest monthly sales peak of last year (732,000), and the progress in various regions has significantly accelerated.

The Ministry of Commerce stated that in the next step, commerce departments at all levels will accelerate the promotion of the trade-in work of electric bicycles, and earnestly implement this work that benefits both the present and the future, ensures safety and promotes consumption, helps enterprises and benefits people's livelihood.
