The Dongjiang Shenzhen Water Supply Project (referred to as the "Dongshen Water Supply Project") is a large-scale cross basin water diversion project built by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to solve the drinking water difficulties of Hong Kong compatriots. The project starts from Qiaotou Town in Dongguan City in the north and ends at Shenzhen Reservoir in Shenzhen City in the south. After multiple upgrades and renovations, it has supplied a total of 30 billion cubic meters of water to Hong Kong, meeting about 80% of Hong Kong's current freshwater demand and providing strong water resources support for Hong Kong's development. At the Taiyuan Pumping Station, the first level pumping station of the Dongshen Water Supply Project, students witnessed a clear river and explored the reasons for the construction of the project; At the final stop of the project, the Shenzhen Reservoir, they watched unmanned aerial vehicles and boats patrol up close to understand the current situation and operation management of the project... "The most impressive thing is the huge support that the project has given to Hong Kong," said Zhang Kunjie, a student from Hong Kong Bishop's College, standing next to the water supply facilities. "The country has not only achieved remarkable achievements in water conservancy construction, but also always kept Hong Kong's livelihood needs in mind. The Dongshen Water Supply Project is a witness to the mainland's care for Hong Kong. Cai Deye, Chief Chemist of Hong Kong Water Supplies Department, introduced that in commemoration of the important milestone of the 60th anniversary of Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong, the Development Bureau and Water Supplies Department have launched diversified activities since September 2024, including this exploration tour for secondary school students. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has been in close contact with the Guangdong Provincial Government regarding the quantity and quality of Dongjiang water supplied to Hong Kong. The Water Supplies Department has also actively engaged in technical exchanges with water supply agencies in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. Cheng Zhongli, the person in charge of the Dongjiang River Basin Management Bureau in Guangdong Province, said that water conservancy departments at all levels in Guangdong have always attached great importance to water supply to Hong Kong.
