2024-12-25

Recently, Qingcheng Palace was opened to the public for the first time. This is another ancient architectural area open to the public within the scope of Xiannong Altar, following the opening of Shencang Courtyard on April 18th this year. As one of the 15 heritage sites along the central axis of Beijing and an important component of Xiannong Temple, Qingcheng Palace has been opened to the public for the first time after the successful application for UNESCO World Heritage status on the central axis of Beijing. The Qingcheng Palace, originally known as the Zhai Palace, was built in the second year of the Tianshun reign of the Ming Dynasty (1458). It was a place where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties fasted before worshipping the ancestors of the farmers. In the 20th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1755), the corridors and walls of Qingcheng Palace were renovated, forming the existing layout, and renamed Qingcheng Palace, becoming a place for the emperor to worship the late farmers and celebrate after personally cultivating the land. The architectural complex of Qingcheng Palace faces north and south, with the outer palace gate, inner palace gate, main hall, and rear hall arranged in sequence from south to north. There are supporting halls built on both sides of the courtyard between the two halls. The ancient architectural complex of Qingcheng Palace has a magnificent layout and exquisite decoration, and is the highest level royal architectural complex in the Xiannong Altar, showcasing the typical style of Ming Dynasty royal architecture.
