More vigorous imports and smoother channels - Peruvian blueberries welcome peak consumption season in China

2024-11-28

Recently, after on-site inspection by Shenzhen Bay Customs officers, a batch of fresh Peruvian blueberries weighing 11.7 tons quickly cleared customs at the Shenzhen Bay Port and arrived at the largest fruit distribution center in southern China, Guangzhou Jiangnan Market, within 2 hours. They were then sold to various parts of China. This batch of fresh Peruvian blueberries was declared for import by Shenzhen Shengtai Huanyu Supply Chain Co., Ltd. Manager Yang, the head of customs affairs at the company, said, "November is the peak season for imported blueberries, and Peruvian blueberries are highly favored by domestic supermarkets and consumers due to their stable production rate and rich taste. This quarter, our imported Peruvian blueberries are expected to increase by nearly 30% compared to the previous season." Every autumn and winter, boxes of blueberries from Peru cross mountains and seas to China. Taking advantage of the seasonal difference in the southern hemisphere, Peruvian blueberries are very popular in the Chinese market, and China has become the second largest buyer of Peruvian blueberries. Shenzhen is adjacent to Hong Kong and has the advantages of a mature shipping industry and low freight rates. Most Peruvian fruit companies choose to import through Hong Kong via Shenzhen. According to statistics, since entering the peak season for Peruvian blueberry clearance in October, Shenzhen has imported 5400 tons of fresh Peruvian blueberries with a value of 421 million yuan, an increase of 54.3% and 80.6% year-on-year, respectively. Due to their delicate and perishable nature, blueberries require high clearance efficiency. In response to this, Shenzhen Bay Customs has formulated a fruit peak season clearance guarantee plan, closely combining with the shipping schedule and import volume to allocate manpower, coordinating with ports to increase the configuration of refrigeration equipment, setting up professional inspection stations, avoiding the backlog of port vehicles, maximizing the compression of clearance time, and ensuring the freshness and safety of fruits. In addition to the southern city of Shenzhen, cities such as Shanghai in East China and Tianjin in North China are also experiencing the peak import season for Peruvian blueberries recently. Tianjin Port, the largest comprehensive port in northern China, has recently opened three new direct routes to Latin America, covering major ports in the Pacific and Atlantic regions of Latin America. Among them, the Tianjin Port to South America West route is known as the "Fruit Express". On September 18th of this year, the first batch of 11.7 tons of Peruvian imported blueberries arrived at Tianjin Port through this direct flight route, marking the first time in history that South American imported blueberries have landed at a northern port. During the 31st APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting this year, the port of Qiankai in Peru officially opened. Cruise ships loaded with Peruvian blueberries, grapes, avocados and other fruits will sail to China along the new era of the Asia Latin America Land Sea New Corridor from Qiankai to Shanghai this year. With the official operation of Qiankai Port, the transportation time for goods exported from South America to the Asian market will be shortened from over 30 days to over 20 days, with a significant reduction in direct flight time and logistics costs. After the first direct route to Shanghai is opened, shipments will gradually be sent to other locations in the Asia Pacific region according to actual conditions and needs. After the opening of Qiankai Port, the quantity and quality of blueberries we ship to China will increase. We plan to expand the planting area to meet the demand of the Chinese market Federico Maggio, Production and Service Manager of Gambo Xian, an international fruit and vegetable supplier in Peru, said in an interview with Chinese media.
